Bought some gift cards at Safeway today, to use later buying Christmas Presents with.

Got me a total of $.70 off per gallon.

From $73.00 to $20.00 nice.

I know, at the casino it was $1.71 a gallan and I payed $26.00 to fill up my truck compared to3 months ago. Took $ 60.00 to fill up.

That's amazing.

Subtract $.58 for state and fed taxes, and for the remaining $.60 a gallon, a company will locate, retrieve, process, package, pump and sell us the go-go juice. That just seems incredibly cheap to me.

Further, almost half of what you paid was straight taxes.

.Gov is definitely helping main street out these days... potholes and all.

It's even better when your mother in law spends money at Safeway but doesn't have the Safeway gas station near where they live, so the wife and I get to enjoy their fuel discounts!

Oh, and in before one of the gearheads chastise about how bad Safeway gas is!

I am no expert but rumor has it that Safeway gas is bought from the cheapest supplier. So the cheapest supplier changes from time to time. Sometime ARCO sometime Shell etc.

I filled up with a tank full and got 2 miles a gallon less. Different fuels are blended differently. Some more expensive fuels are blended better.

In the Seattle area about 3-4 months ago there were a lot of cars that filled up at Safeways and quit running a short time latter. They found to much water in the tanks.

If I fill up at Safeway or ARCO and save 1.60 a tank it isn't worth it to me.

Of coarse with dicount coupons the savings would be more, might have to think about that.

Ever since the new Fred Meyer opened in Snohomish and has consistently had the lowest prices in town it's been where I buy fuel almost exclusively.

No problems.

No loss of economy.

I've never noticed a difference between fuel from Shell, Chevron, Texaco, Gulf, Safeway, AM/PM, etc.

There are only a few refineries in the area and all of the fuel comes from the same places. Hell, it's all pumped through the same pipeline for final distribution.

The only real concern might be buying from a low volume station where the fuel may have sat and been contaminated with moisture condensation.

Overall, I've had no problem with fuel economy with the different brands of gas.  With one exception, ARCO-AM/PM.  My Bike hated that stuff, and my truck didn't seem to like it any better.

From what I understand, it's all really the same gas, with different detergents added to it depending on the brand.

YMMV

Pretty much - all comes out of the same six refinery terminals.  There are two in Tacoma supplying the south end.  After that, it's all about the additives and how well the stations maintain their equipment (ie, water infiltration).

I've never really had any issue with Arco AM/PM gas.  It's sold by BP.  The reason it's cheaper is the lack of detergents in it.  Lack of detergents means more deposits in your injectors, intake valves and combustions chambers. This can and will lead to sticking valves and bad injectors down the road. Oh and octane has nothing to do with the quality of the gas. The higher the octane the more the fuel resists detonation.

I won't use Arco gas unless I absolutely have to.  When I was paying $70.00 for a tank of gas, I used it.  Now that I average $25.00 to $30.00 a tank, I don't.

$25.55 for about 14 gallons of Mid Grade (89 oct) at the Chevron in Ken!  (1.85 per gallon!!!)

A LONG ways from $73 to fill up this summer..

isnt costco doing the same now.. i wish price was like that all the time

As stated earlier, its all about the additives, or lack there of.  87 is 87 is 87. The detergent can be added by the consumer for much less per gallon. A half pint bottle of Techron added to the tank at fill up, every time you change the oil will do the same amount of good that spending the extra $.10 a gallon for the higher price gas. Buying your gas at a busy station in good repair is most of it.

Of course I have a pet peev of not buying gas if the tanker is there refilling the tanks and stiring all the garbage off the bottom tf the tank,

I had a problem with Arco. It wrecked a sensor on my Nissan 4wd. I ended up having to put it in the dealer to get it fixed.
He asked me on the phone if I used Arco. I said yes. He said "Don't do that anymore".
So I stopped. No problem since..

I was talking to a Techron rep not long ago. As said above, everyone gets their gas from the same place. The only difference is the additive package added to the gas. From what I understand they add the additive to the empty tanker. Then it pulls into the line of ARCO, Texaco, Chevron, etc... trucks and gets topped off with gas.

I don't use ARCO gas because I never carry cash and they charge a fee to use my debit card.

Hey Boomer, are you as hapy as I am glad that we can fill up for only $80 now. My worst fill up this year was $187.  I didn't even get a reach around with that fillup

Might have to check into that $0.70 discount.  We did the Fred Meyer thing earlier when they gave and additional 10% crdit onto the cards.  I bought fuel for over 2 months that way.

Last night I filled up the expedition at the petro just outside spokane for $1.63/gal, and Filled up the Mustang this morning before the drive to Bothell for $1.59/gal.

Of course diesel is still $2.99/gal.

<rant on>
BTW, isn't it funny how the state can make $0.36 per gallon, fed makes $0.184 per gallon then the government claims that big oil has windfall profits when they make less than $0.08 per gallon?

The real bullshit is that congress is considering raising the federal tax since gas is more affordable now.  f'n idiots.

What I really need to do is get the phone number for the Safeway Club Card that the local BNSF terminal uses. I'll bet we buy $1,500-2,000 worth of supplies there each month and as far as I know no one is using the fuel discount. They have to fill up the company vehicles at stations that accept the corporate fuel card.

Yeah, it was pretty bad there for a while. Even now it's only good by comparison.

Nice to see you made it over here. Did you get your lower?

Uh, no.  I ended up getting the Armalite that got listed on NWB.  Might still pick up a lower if I can come up with the extra change.  I don't know though.  So many other things to get.
