Howdy,
I'm thinking about refinishing some of my 30rd AR (Center Industries Corp. Witchita, KS) mags. They have an older sort of finish that reminds me of a galvanized nail in dark gray. I'd like to get them bead blasted clean so I can hit them with some duracoat. 3rd Gen Magpul followers already purchased. Any suggestions of a place to do this in the Seattle area? Obviously I don't want to drop big bucks considering I'm repainting them with duracoat. I don't recall seeing any Mag refinsihing threads. Thanks, Scott |

I have done lots of Mil Spec mag refinishing. Myself and Bunny did a couple with a bead blaster....I would not do that again total waste of time. Clean them really good, and hit them with some sandstrom 9A and bake in a convection oven ( cheap one at target works just fine) you will have your mags back to mil spec. or just clean them really good, and duracoat.
That Galvi Dk gry you are talking... Is Mil Spec, it is a dry lube, and will wear off after a bit. ( Sandstrom 9A) Im guessing you just like the look of the newer anodized mags, and that is cool also. but that dry lube finish is good stuff. |

Unless there's a corrosion problem, bead blasting just isn't necessary. The scratches will still be there.
We refinished a lot of mags with Sandstron 9A, then painted a few for appearances/photography, but that was just for showing off. Sandstron 9A is the real deal. Great lube/protection. You paint one side, bake it for an hour at 450 degrees then paint the other side and bake it again. No more flakes or chips, just a good grey finish. |

FYI, sandstorm 9a looks like it contains Lead:
quote from HERE: "Use Sandstrom "099" as an alternative to 9A where low VOC and no lead is preferred. 099's performance is comparable to 9A." Other then that, this stuff sounds really handy to have around, thanks for the info! -Beetle |
