| With the launch of the shuttle today I was wondering. WTF happened to them being far to unsafe and postponing all launches until we got something new? Did we piss off Russia enough that they won't take us up there anymore? |

Did we piss off Russia enough that they won't take us up there anymore? NASA want to finish the space Station and the shuttle is the only thing big enough to do the job. When that station is completed the shuttle will be grounded. On a side note the shuttle was suppose to be cheaper than the Saturn V rockets to launch stuff in to space. Funny thing is the cost are a bit higher for the SST than the one time use Saturn V. It is about 10,000 bucks per pound to put stuff into orbit |
| That's too funny they changed their mind. I could have sworn a year or so ago they said that that was it until the next gen shuttle system was built. I guess they figured w/ the economy they were better off chancing lives if they ever wanted to finish before the space station becomes too dated for future additions... |

Retirement date is set for 2010. This... I never heard anything about grounding the fleet early, and I try and keep up on this stuff. Hell, I would get on that shuttle right now knowing the risk if they would find a seat for me. I'd go, anytime, anywhere, any mission. Without question. |

The Shuttle is going to be retired in 2010, they have 10 launches left the last I heard.
The plan is to depend on the Russians until our next system is ready in 2015. To me the new system looks like a pile of shit, and I expect the Russians to jerk us around, so you can say bye-bye to a manned US presence in space. Unless the Indians start flying people soon. |

As I was watching the news report on the shuttle tonight I seemed to recall some talk about man going to the moon again. Was I dreaming or is someone planning on going to the moon again? They've been thinkin' about it and talkin' about it for a while now. Very, very early stages of planning................. Of course this is a great distraction, as the NSA already has a base up there............... |
