Hi All I am looking at using an epoxy on my 3 car garage has anyone else out here done this before. If so what works well what does not? Any recommendations on what to do or where to go get info would be appreciated. Jason [email protected] |

Not sure if places rent 'em or not, but look into getting a "shot blaster" for an afternoon. I paid to have our garage floor done with MMA (Methyl Methacrylate-- sort of an epoxy-like stuff, but ten minute pot life, drive/park on in 2 hours, 25 year warranty against peeling/lifting/chipping) and they had what looked like a super-industrial strength rug doctor... Anyway, it was loaded up with steel shot (ball bearings/BB's) and it literally just beats the top layers of cement off and vacuums it away-- oil, grease, and all. Makes a sound unlike anything you've ever heard. Epoxy/MMA sticks *real good* to that kind of porous surface. I dropped a steel pipe from the top of a ladder (doing blow-in insulation) and it chipped the floor... But the MMA didn't 'pop' off-- it tore up the top layer of concrete! (that was a free warranty-repair which was nice) Also, don't coat cement that's less than a year or so old if you can avoid it-- too much moisture still in it. The older and dryer the better. -Clay |
