Pay the couple of extra bucks and let the truly nice people at Mary's Pistols handle it for you. Some times it is not always about "how cheap". Customer service matters. Dan and Mary are hands down the best gunshop owners around.

... you should have a C&R FFL already and have it shipped to your front door.

I would, if I could.  But my prospective buyer is from North Snoho and I am in Kitsap County.  I'm trying to meet him half-way.  Thanks.

And you want to go through this un-neccessary hassle / cost / paperwork on a WA ftf transaction because why ???

Couple of extra bucks = $2

Sometimes customer service = doing what the customer wants and not complaining about things like cosmoline and styrofoam peanuts...

I want to get it "off my name".  If I do a FTF, it would still be in my name on record.

WA-DOL has a DIY form you can fill out and send in.  IF you're concerned with a papertrail thats the route to go along with a bill of sale withthe persons WA DL info/CHL  etc etc. Save you quite a bit of hassle.

The 4473 & bound books are the only paper record the feds would ever see and only then if the FFL you use to do the transfer goes out of business or if there's a trace of the firearm, which would come back to you as the original buyer and you'd have to point them to the FFL you used to do the transfer. So you'd be in the exact same boat minus $20-$100 depending on fuel/ferry/transfer fees, although pointing them to an FFL may be easier then finding your own copy of the DOL form and accompanying bill of sale. There is no central registry to "get it out of your name" unlike titled vehicles, each FFL maintains a paper copy and their bound book until they go out of business, after which their records are given to ATF to maintain IIRC.

IOW, you are still gonna be in the loop, so do the FTF and save both yourself and the buyer that trip to the FFL.

The feds won't know that you sold it unless they go looking for it, and they'll be talking to you after they talk to the dealer that sold it to you.

If the feds need to find out about that gun they will:

1)Contact the maker who will tell them where it went (wholesaler or dealer)
2)Contact the Wholesaler or dealer that the manufacturer told them it was sold to
3)Contact the dealer that the wholesaler told them it was sold to
4)look at the dealers book of acquisitions and dispositions and pull the 4473
5)Contact you.  The new owner will not be in the chain until you tell them that you sold it to him and provide information that leads to him.

It's fine if you want to do the transfer at an FFL, it's all CYA.

Haven't we been down this this thread before, Mary's Pistols stated before that transfers are not their main business model and therefore choses to charge a higher fee.  Why do you have go and bash them?    From my experience in dealing with them they have the best customer service and so what if they have a higher than normal  transfer fee, I'll just go to someone else who's cheaper.  But if I want to buy a pistol..I be sure to stop by Mary's first.

Now that you've hijacked this thread, why don't you let this thread die in peace and start new a thread on why you hate Mary's. This will be so you can educate the rest of us on why we should stay away.  So if Mary's has wronged you in any way, I want to know so I can make my own judgment if I want  to continue to do business with them. So spit it out.

Since we are on the subject of needing an FFL to do a transfer , I see that you started a thread on 5/2/2008 4:19:35 PM PDT asking the same question.  Now why couldn't you just give NewToyAR15 the same answer on your  last post of this your thread instead of starting a flame war?

He wouldn't be interested in a dealer in Everett.

I wasn't the one who hijacked the thread...Bigscrun mentioned a couple of things (about Mary's) that I thought was technically inaccurate:

"A couple of bucks" isn't the same as two-and-a-half times the going rate on FFL transfers ($20 -v- $50) A "couple of bucks" means $2-$5 or thereabouts....to say otherwise is misleading. The OP wanted to know where to get a transfer done, and to make an informed decision he needs ACCURATE information.

Bigscrun also mentioned "customer service matters." In my world, customer service isn't a selective option. It means providing the customer with the best service that fits his needs, and with a smile.

Now Mary's is an excellent company. From almost all I've heard, it's a great experience to go there and by something. What ticked me about Mary's was the way she got all pissy about having to "cut wrapping tape...and dispose of styrofoam packing peanuts", saying "that's not why we're in business."

Complaining about having to do what is necessary to get the job done is not professional. That is not good "customer service." I myself had to cut through tape and peanuts to get my last transaction...it took me about 90 seconds. Golly, that's a lot of work for $50...but I'm not complaining about that. It was wrong of Mary's to bitch about having to do ~5 mins. of work, regardless of how much she charges.

But all that doesn't matter, since *I* didn't bring up Mary's in a shitfest. *YOU* did. *YOU* rose in righteous defense of her, thinking she had been defamed somehow.

Now I ask again....What business is it of yours to defend Mary's?

And more importantly...why are you allowing others to control your temper?

a couple of bucks to you may be $2-$5, to me it may be $20-$50. Like I said it is not about "how cheap", it is 100% about supporting people that support us.

I just bought another .38 revolver last week, Dan tossed in a box of ammo on his nickle. Maybe he only does that with clients that he enjoys dealing with. You do have to remember, retail is retail, these people need to feed their families with the income they bring in. Once again, if you don't like them don't buy from them.

They line starts behind me to stand up for Dan and Mary. I feel there is no better local gunshop.
