You gettin' these?

On our way back from Salem this afternoon we saw five with bumper markings {deleted for opsec, as if it matters what with rolling down I5...} heading in the Madigan gate.

Mrs. Drang's aunt asked "What kind of tanks are those?"

They're upgraded versions of the old Cadillac/Gage armored car, except they got rid of the gasoline engine and the armor is a damn sight better.

Can't wait to use one.

Mrs. Drang sez: "Aren't those Strykers?"
I say: "No, they're not Strykers, maybe Caddy-Gage... No, they're not V100s or 150s...  Maybe an MRAP, since they're MilPopo, but all the MRAPs I've seen photos of are bigger..."
Mrs. Drang:  "Are they amphibious?"
Me:  "Beats me, the caddy-gage were, so were the Aeropoint Dragoon's we played around with in the early '80s. Sort of."

Those are ASV's, the MP Corps smaller version of the Stryker. They've been around for awhile. Good small arms protection, bad IED Magnets though. Having the .50 and Mk-19 mounted together is alot of fun. I've been in two that have rolled from taking a corner to fast.

Having been a squid, I never had the opportunity to see any of this cool shit, except in parades. My recent brief stint at Lewis opened my eyes to a whole new world of armor on wheels. I'm not all that excited about how they're put together, but, oooooweeeebaybeee, what could be bad about a vehicle wit da gatz, yo?

Last I checked, I may not have a choice.

I've been talking with a Maj. that's over now, and he doesn't like them.  He says it's for personal reasons, no solid data that says they are crap, but well....

On the plus side, they are almost a certain improvement over the M1114. I just wish that our brads had the speed to keep up with wheeled convoys, and that they had been designed to run with more uptime and less maintenance.

Did you not get a chance to test drive 303rds new M1151s? They shouldnt leave them unlocked...they handle well at high speeds......should have left some beer cans in them and left them parked at badger gap..

Sumthin' about your driver being an certian unamed E8 is just icing on the cake.

I liked the idea of, "...and you'll find the next one at grid...."

I think the scouts would've been able to corral all of them in say, two or three drills.

I was too busy standing in line for anthrax and typhoid shots. Then to talk to LTC Breeden so he coulds say, "Yeah, no shit!," when I said I probably wasn't medically deployable.

To read the news, there's no such thing as "medically undeployable."

        A
history of recurrent (came back,
couple times so far) metastatic (its
spread) cancer seems to be. Trust
me I tried. I offered to go if theyd
send me back to the states or
Germany or any decent place every
3 or 4 months for a CT scan. So
Im trying for a full on medical
retirement instead.

Now this looks pretty darn cool...

Looks a little hight, but It looks like it would beat out an  Up-Armored Humvee.

Now, that looks like one awesome Urban Assault Vehicle.

Is that thing on the end of the boom a claw? A mount for a variety of attachments?  or just a "Poke at it and see if it goes 'BOOM!'" attachment?

Problem with up-armored humvees was (and almost certainly still is) that they didn't upgrade the suspension or transmission when they upgraded the armor.
Hell, soft-side humvees had shitty suspensions and trannies transmissions. (Edited for anyone who might get, um, distracted by the word "tranny"...)

MRAPs.

I'd love to have one to drive around Seattle.
