Welcome.  The WAHTF can be a bit mean sometimes but shake it off if they start being Negative Nellies.  Most of the problems are alcohol related so here is a general breakdown of times and possible problems:

0530 to 0830 - Good time to post or ask a question.  Most of the drunks have passed out and the people awake are usually getting up because they are gainfully employed.  This group will post short insightful answers because they are heading off to work.  Early enough you get the "cheery people".

0830 to 1000 - Answers start getting choppy, replies can get a little surly, question will be directed to the "tacked" threads with very little tact.  Not a lot going on.  Some members who are hungover will jump in after waking up, but they will be inter-net-ally beaten by the people who are working, sober, and mad.

1000 to 1600 - General malaise.  Internet Truce.  This is the period in the movies when the Soldiers and Marines are on one side of the bar and the Army and Air Force are on the other side of the bar, and you are waiting for that bottle to get throw in the middle of the floor to start the brawl.  People are still using their manners, but it is becoming more difficult.

1601 - The bottle is thrown and smashes in the middle of the floor...games afoot!

1602 to 2330  - General pandemonium.  People argue, topics barely stay on post, friendships are made and broken in a keystroke.  The mods are overwhelmed and at this point with trying to stuff toothpaste back in the tube....Feelings are hurt, achievements are ridiculed, greatness is ignored, and mediocrity is celebrated.

Time is taken to make fun of the Oregon and Texas hometown forums.  Usually Oregon can't reply because all there members have been locked for trying to sell stuff in the General Forum and not in the E&E.  Texas can not muster enough people to make a good showing due to the time difference.  If it is 2000 hours here,it is still 1825 AD in Texas.

2330 to 0100 - Late owls start turning off some of the lights and saying goodnight.  Most of the trouble makers have been mod locked for a time out and things start to settle down.  Some of the night crew starts checking in and bumping threads that made it to page two.  The thread bumping is the equivalent of going through the office fridge to see what was left by day shift.  No posting from the hardcore alcoholics at this point.  Memories are trying to be erased one brain cell at a time.

0100 to 0530 - Night crew and insomniacs take over.   Most of the posts and replies are standard:
"I'm bored, are you bored"
"Yeah I'm bored, car just went by..."
"What color was it?"
"I didn't see it, I just heard it."
"Oh..."
"It sounded like a Honda..."

So have fun.  Our best for running a new member off was 6 posts.  PCR will tell you that is nothing to be proud of,  he will then turn his head slightly, nod, and say "6 posts" with just a hint of pride.

What armed service are the soldiers from? Is it just Army guys surrounding the marines so they have more targets?

I caught that too but was going to wait for the General pandemonium time frame to say something about it.
