The trany in my Ranger took a dump today at 141K My brother has been borrowing it since I don't drive it much.. still sucks though, great little truck

Figure I might as well put a 5 speed in like I had planned.. truck is running great otherwise So now just need to find a cheap donor of the same year

What year? Mine is a '94 and its tranny croaked about the same time -- due to a leak though. A new refurb one was around $1500 IIRC, according to the mechanic Ranger transmissions are hard to get -- cause they croak so often.

Seems to be transmission season in the Pacific Northwest.

Very nice of you to let your brother borrow your truck. Not very considerate of him to let a tranvestite with bowel control issues ride along.

Oh joy, a ford vs chevy thread!  Can we discuss what the best oil is right after we do the same for tires?

(Yawn)

My ford explorer has your S10 transvestite beat again.  Almost 200K miles on original drive train components.

But we all know that brand name is only the beginning to longevity.

Mine is an '88... I'm thinking it was either everything 91 or 92 and earlier should work without issue.

As far as the longevity, I'm surprised it lasted as long as did to be honest. It blew a main seal and leaked bad(actually almost out of fluid twice) about 35K ago.. and has been run HARD off road.

As far as the S-10 trany.. the 700R4/4L60 isn't much better. Extremely light duty automatics do not fair well in trucks used(or even abused) for their intended purposes.

After you finish with the Ford vs. Chevy, can we discuss AK vs. AR ?? Or Glock vs. 1911!!!  That will be exciting!

I had an '88 S-10 with the 2.5L + 5 speed. My first car, I beat the shit out of that truck. It would do burnouts like you wouldn't believe

Last I heard it had over 260k miles on the same transmission (1 new clutch). I should have kept that truck...
