I've been toying with the idea of getting a Remington 870 Express for home defense. What would be a reasonable price for a used one? I want to get the model with the 18" barrel.

There was one on the EE a few weeks back, unfired, for $275, I missed it by a few hours...

Sam's had two a week or so ago for $325 (if I remember correctly), but I was suspect that they may have been used.  I couldn't tell because they were in GREAT shape.
** These were the home defense version with no rear sight and a short post on the front

I also saw one at DGS in Kirkland I believe it was $345 brand new.
** Not sure of the version, I didn't finger fuck it, it was on the wall behind the counter.

Sam's also had a pretty sweet Beretta Semi-Auto for $420 that was ridiculously light weight, almost felt fake.

ETA: DGS also had a Mossberg Maverick 88 for $219 new, but I've read nothing but bad reviews on them.  Just throwing it out there as I've been shopping shotty's as well!

That would have made a fine IM or Email to the OP.-Phil_in_Seattle

Busted by the Phil man!  Good thing I already read it and sent an IM!
In all fairness Reddawg has first option on it though...

I picked up a Mossberg 500 for 100. The only thing I had to do was replace the mag tube spring. It's gone BANG every time I have used it.

I love 500s and 870s.    They are among my vices.  So cheap, so bitchin'.

I'd spend $60-$70 less and get a bare bones mossy before I'd recommend an 870 Express. Remington really does not have the value market down.

I'd try to find a used Wingmaster and then put a Wilson mag tube and follower on it as well as a good mag spring..

I picked an 870 Express at the Arms Collectors of Southwest Washington show in January. It was an unfired, 18 inch "used" walk in for $200.

A hack saw and file can make any of them more homey.
