Oh goodie. My carbine came in to West Coast Armory today, and me, being a jackass, didn't have a state ID. I had my old Washington ID with a hole through it and my cali ID. Was getting ready to head to the DMV to get my local license, and again, realized...what do I have to show residence?

I've been through the entire list of "things needed for proof of residence" in the DMV list - I literally have zero. I have California insurance, but it just expired as I sold my car before I moved up here. I'm in the process of looking for work, so my incoming "checks" are signed California. I have no utility bills because rent and everything is free.

So basically, according to Washington, I don't exist. My rifles sitting there and I'm beating my head against the wall with their "list" of acceptable documents. Here it is:

you can show us 1 document from this list.

       * Concealed weapons permit
       * Homeowner’s insurance policy or invoice
       * Home utility bill (such as gas, electricity, water, garbage, landline telephone, or cable) or hook-up work order dated within the past 60 days. You must be the only person named on the bill or work order.
       * Mortgage documents
       * Property tax bill or statement dated within the past 12 months
       * Your name and address in a current phone book made by a telephone book publisher
       * Moorage bill or contract

All no.

you can show us 2 documents from this list.

       * Auto insurance policy
       * Washington State business license
       * Business mail dated within the past 60 days. Mail must include your first and last name, and must be from state or federal revenue departments, the Social Security Administration, the U.S. Treasury, or the IRS. It cannot be addressed “in care of,” “for,” or “parent of.”
       * Current Washington State voter card
       * Home utility bill (such as gas, electricity, water, garbage, landline telephone, or cable) or hook-up work order dated within the past 60 days. Two or more unrelated people may be named on the bill or work order.
       * Medical record paid by insurance or a medical bill
       * Medicaid card or DSHS medical coupon
       * Pay stub showing your employer’s name AND phone number or address
       * Professional license (nurse, physician, engineer, etc.)
       * Selective service card showing a Washington State address
       * Professionally-filed tax return or filed copy sent to you by the IRS for the most recent tax filing year
       * Transcript or report card for the current school year from an educational institution in Washington State
       * W-2 form for the previous year

I can get my voter registration, but it will take awhile.

I don't exist. Guess you can call me Jason Bourne.

I still have a VA license... It's a real pain in the ass in WA to show residency!  I applied for my voter registration card, and will use either that in combo with my pay stubs... or just my CPL to prove residency.

One thing that is great though, is if you have a gun friendly state ID you can still buy a long arm such as shotgun or rifle in Washington State

A WA CPL is fine by them for proof of residency. And yes, if I had come from Idaho, id be fine.

Wow that's wierd. I went to the Driver's Licensing in Idaho when I moved back there, hell I was in another county then the one I lived in. Not only did they not ask for any proof of residency, just a previous DL and a birth certificate, I managed to have them put down my "city" as the common name for a wide spot on the highway where I was living. The gal wasn't sure where the hell I lived, let alone question if it was really a city/town. She just took my word for that I knew what I was talking about. Ain't gonna see that happen here.  I had assumed that a current DL and a birth certificate would get you a DL here. Its (been awhile since Ive had a WADL in fact my last one was laminated thats how long its been. All Ive used for ID for the last 10+ years has been a DL and a birth certificate, never had anyone refuse the wallet sized laminated birth certificate I have. Banks/US Customs/CPL renewal/every job Ive had where they filled out a I-9 form.
Currently my IDDL is valid through 2012 or so and I'm not seeing a real good reason to get a WADL again.

On that note, I'm bringing in a stack of documentation tomorrow to see if I can overload the WA "sits behind his/her desk for 10 bucks an hour" senses and get this done and over with.

What a pain in the ass, I waited a month for this rifle only to find out it takes an encyclopedia to get a license. Why the hell do I need a license for a car I don't have or need?

In CA I brought a single document with my name and address on it and I was done. That being said, I had other documentation.

God this state is above and beyond better than Cali, and I don't fault West Coast Armory, but this shit gets old. Fast.

Thanks for the input...thats what a couple glasses of JD + posting gets me

- $10/Hr?  This is WA.gov, nothing there pays under $14/hr.

Wow.. didn't think Lance and his staff would put up that much of a fight to prevent you from getting your carbine..  I bought from him, that's where I got my custom AR.  They were really cool..  little distant, but still friendly.  Gave me a great deal.

BTW why don't you have a local license.. it takes about a hour to get it..  I know because when I bought my AR, I had to go to the DOL to get my new license after moving to WA.  I can't say where I'm from because I don't want a spankybear on my ass.

The laws the law, I needed to get my local license anyways. You have to prove residence to buy a gun if your from a non-gun friendly state. After looking on the local DOL website for what was required to prove residence, I had none of it. I was worried about nothing - they hand the things out and I got it in 20 minutes.

The guys at West Coast Armory were very friendly, but a little bit "not in the know" - the rifle came with a "different" BCG (Im paranoid about posting what kind, but you all know) and the dude behind the counter was adamant that I could be charged/convicted/whatever for it. I was under the impression that it wasn't a machine gun part per our laws in WA and banning importation of them.

If the BCG was a M16 there is nothing illegal about it at all. SHIT this has been covered 20 times.

Thats what I thought. Gun counter dude was SURE I was in trouble if an LEO knew what to look for - I told him I have never heard anything about them being illegal, or restricted under our current WA laws - they don't make the gun fire more than one round per pull of the trigger, only a SEAR/FCG part change could do that.

He was just as sure it was indeed illegal. I didn't choose to argue it.

Was it a driver's license with a valid expiration date? If so then once a driver's license is punched it then becomes a state ID so long as the expiration date is still current.
