[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Non Wa Topics (Page 1 of 2)

| Where is it written that we have to talk about wa related topics in the HTF? |
|
I think of the WAHTF as a nice filter into the rest of ArfCOM, if there is something important happening in GD or elsewhere someone will post a link here. Also, its more fun to discuss issues with people who you 'know' than it is with a bunch of teeny-boppin wannabe-EBR owners in GD. The discussions here are, sometimes, more interesting and intelligent. At least since PCR-00 has quieted down |

Im one of those guys thas thinks you should leave that shit in GD... It is starting to become a game with some of you. Honestly Look at what content is in the ATF Raid post..... C&7's post?... Sounds like you are more into telling phil how proud you are for not going to GD. If you are so proud of NOT going into GD, then please dont drag the GD into here. ![]() Honestly, it does not take much to tie a lot of topics into the WAHTF, but dont just go pulling the old cut and paste from one section of the board to another, at least try to be creative about it.. SHOW HOW IT RELATES TO WASHINGTON AT LEAST. |
Many of us don't venture into GD. I NEVER would have known about Cav Arms getting raided had it not been posted here. I guess we are on two sides of the fence. I like the fact that people bring current events in here. Like someone else said, This group typically discusses topics, not just "+1" or "TAG" or my personal favorite "." ... While I do my fair share of cruising ARF, I can't stand 20 something page threads of that stupidity. I like the intelligence here. As for my posts, I like to poke the bear just a little bit. For everyone that says, "it's already in GD" or "What does this have to do with WA", I like to point out not all of us venture there. ETA: (I Figure if some people feel the need to repeat themselves so many times, I must need to repeat myself TO them) ... Sometimes those out of state news stories DO pertain to us. If the supreme court strikes down the DC gun ban that is HUGE to all of our rights and the 2nd amendment in the long run, even though it's not OUR Washington in the recent news. |
POKE THE BEAR!!?!!/??/???!/1?! Hey that's not nice

It's a tough & somewhat sensitive subject, with a lot of history here, and even some moments that the WA HTF shouldn't be overly proud of IMO. (including some of my own choices) Like many, I don't make it to GD much. I also don't like to read many written jokes (why I've abandon email for the most part), hate political arguments, and despise anything that promotes sincere division between otherwise friends. Then again, I like to know some of the big news, and would miss it just because I avidly avoid the asshattery frequent in GD. But.... it ain't all about me. Challenging or pushing a rule that has been left for the mods discretion isn't a very intelligent way to make positive improvement. Yet on the other hand, a mod has to look out for the best interests of the membership AND the section of the site he's responsible for. I guess I'm saying I found it tough to deal with when I tried to find the defining line of 'move or don't move', especially when I had misinterpreted some of the signals I got from some staff and other mods. In the end, my first post stands. It's really up to the mods to run the WA HTF how they see fit, and I think they've been abundantly fair and easy going about it all. It ain't broke, stop fixing it! |
Im not saying DONT.... Im saying, Make it tie in with something that should warrant it being put in the WASHINGTON HTF, otherwise you are just double posting... We really dont need 50+ threads on the same topic, we dont really need 2, but that's just MHO I dont goto GD is an excuse, if someone tells you about it, then goto GD to read it, If you want to pass it on, IM them the link. Otherwise, Find a way to make it fit into the local section. Im not a mod, I dont have any say in how this joint is run, Im just saying what I think about the topic.... Tell me to FOAD if you want to |
Thats just trolling, and if you are going to troll, at least make it seem like you are not trolling. |
| I don't think anything in GD can remain un-corrupted very long, so why go there to read all the trolls and 13 year old post shit? Team is another matter though. If you can't post a national news story in the HTF this place will loose some members. I'm just saying. NOTHING IS GOING TO GET ME TO SPEND TIME IN GENERAL DISCUSSION! |
No way. A good spirited debate is fine... I respect your view on the subject. It's rare that I start a thread... In my example, I was listening to talk radio and heard about the Orange ribbon thing with the Oscars. I didn't watch the show, I don't care for hollywood types. I did a quick google search to verify the validity of the story, and found myself mildly outraged at that sort of thing and wanted to discuss it. I figured my like minded friends would feel the same. While I did figure it was in GD, again, I don't like "." or "tag" stupidity. SO I posted it here, much the same I would bring it up at lunch after a gun show, or at PCRs place around the fire on a Friday night. |
Signal to noise in GD is pretty high but if you completely stay out of GD you miss good threads( at least they start off good) ![]() Old_Painless-The Box O' Truth - Precision Shooting With Buckshot (any Box O'Truth thread is worthwhile) AR15.COM Members Fighting the War on Terror Tuesday Night Armor Threads Firday Night Aircraft Pics Phriday Phantoms Mystery Aircraft 2008 AmericanSnipers.Org Challenge Coins As well as missing a wide variety and often very expert input in many threads. You also of course have the benefit of missing the bottom of the barrel stuff like justinwb posting about how he woke up covered in dog piss&shit because he got drunk and passed out in the yard. |

I'm one of the guilty ones. I post and reply to plenty of stuff in WAHTF that's not WA related. Same reason as everybody else: reading most GD stuff feels like putting my nuts in a vise - it hurts, and is ultimately counterproductive. I've noticed under Phil's reign that we're trying to practice a little bit more of a tighter ship. I want to be a good citizen of WAHTF, so I'll do my best to follow along with the shift toward posting only WA centered stuff. In my heart of hearts, I realize that it's not just a matter of the 'tard quotient in GD. For me it's also a matter of sample size. this is a big board, and I feel a little vertigo when confronted with all the lunatics at once. In my tenure thus far, I think I've stayed close to home, 'cause the size of WAHTF is understandable to me. So, I'll try branching out a bit more, beyond lurking in the tech forums. But WAHTF is and will remain my favorite place here. |

| I have posted my share of GD topics here in the HTF. Why? Because I don’t give a damn what Bucky Bill and his half-sister/wife from Arkansas thinks about the topic. Usually I am more interested in what people I know think...and therefore find it worthwhile to post here for discussion. It facilitates community and often I can find a local paper running the story... |
Ditto..... I really disagree with R-32's position. I feel if you find it something interesting post it here for the rest of us to see and discuss. The WHTF is about the only website I visit everyday to get the daily news, besides looking over the comcast home page. I figure if its important enough then it will get posted here without me having to go look for it. If its not posted here I don't hear it and I don't see it. I have to many other things to take care of to keep up with whats going on in the rest of the world. At least this way we know who is who and who we take a grain of salt with. |
Did you seriously just give blanket permission to get away with that? ![]() +1 on someone who can't stand GD. Its more like Degenerate General these days. |
Funny thing is that it's posted under EdSrs account. Posted :: 8/1/2005 10:12:12 AM PST |
And if you're careful you can draw them out...go to any politics discussion thread in GD...you can spot the DU trolls from a mile a way. |
Not that I've noticed. Presumably PCR's troll account just felt the need to wake up the sleeping dog. A little bit of STFU goes a long way sometimes.Remember the saying "kill 'em all and let God sort them out"? Keep it under control and let Phil and MD lock what they will, but quit making an issue of it. |
| Looks to me like there's a good balance here. We have local news, stories, and discussions that affect us specifically. On top of that we also have little breaks from the normal routine with a couple threads just for the hell of it, but always centered on the HTF members. I agree that most crap should stay in GD where it belongs, but the amount that is here is plenty. We also have the nice buffer system with the members themselves set up to keep the WAHTF from becoming a mini-GD. Yes it is a game to some here on ARFcom, but I doubt that's the case here as a whole. |

Well I was exaggerating. I shared one 12 oz beer with my brother and best friend in 1980 and that got all three of us a pretty good buzz. |
Vodka, 1985..... while my parents were "out". It took a lot of nerve for me to try vodka again, some 20 years later. ![]() (Yep, it ended terribly )
|
Only the very best for my brother, and sister WAHTF members!

Hey that's not nice
