Hey fellow AR shooters. I met hunter121 on saturday and he refered me to this site. I have a DPMS LR308-AP4 AR-10, and I love it. It is basicly stock, just mounted a scope. But I am wanting to start bui9lding an AR-15. BTW, I got the beer! |
Damn you Hunter and SgtWkp ... I now have the sudden urge to build an AR-10... That god tax returns are coming up!! |
+1 ![]() Good first post! |

Welcome! We really are dysfunctional. Hope ya fit in ![]()
Are you gonna build an ArmaLite AR10 or DPMS .308? I just finished my AR10 build. Will be bringing it to LCR. Last thing I want to do is change the hand guards for free float rails |
I'm not to functional myself... |
Did you go out to the range yesterday like you said you were going to do? Glad you like the 357, it was hard to let her go but she needed a new home ![]() ETA: If your not planing to run any BUIS then you can usually find a nice low pro gas block for under $50. Swaping them out is pretty easy, just need to get the right O.D of you barrel at the gasblock. It is most likely .750. If you plan to run some BUIS you would have to raise your scope up to get the rear BUIS and then you could go with a flip up front sight gasblock like a PRI or YHM. |
There are quite a few of us in this area. I myself am in Marysville/Lake Stevens. |
Not sure, it will be 3rd in line at this point... I'm finishing my Wa Build this week, I'm going H&K Clone 91 when the tax return hits next month (thanks to Migra and his damn G3 that he's allowed me to shoot on more than 1 occasion!) ... And I figure if I'm getting into the .308 game with the H&K clone, an AR10/DMPS sounds tempting. A little research will be needed before I start! |
like I said anytime! and if not me, I’m sure there are plenty of others in the area who are more than willing to offer their assistance too … its always nice to have someone else at the bench with the first one. |

Will, I think you will find that mounting a scope on top of a carry handle to be pretty high up there. Most find this very uncomfortable. Depending on how you shoot you might be better off getting a one piece scope mount and a flip down buis for the rear to start off. Then upgrade the sight post to a flip up buis/gasblock. If your on a budget, YHM makes a decent buis and they have the flip up front gasblock and the rear buis. Both would probably run just over $150 or so for the pair. A decent one piece scope mount will run you just under $100 for a Armalite and some others. Larue is spendy for a one piece mount but they are worth the cost in my own opinion but certainly not needed. HERE is a link to some differnt one piece scope mounts. Also just a observation but man the scope on your 308 is really low, you must shoot with the stock pretty high on you shoulder. |

as a matter a fact I do! as there is a 500 yard range open to HighPowers on Sunday the 27th and quite a few more dates throughout the rest of the year … but you are restricted to loading (1) round at a time. right now I’m planning to attend, IM me if your interested and I’ll give ya the rest of the details. |
