Hey guys.  I have a NM M1A from Springfield. And today I was trying to clean it and could not get the op rod/charging handle off. I can get the op rod off my garand easily but on this one I just cant figure it out. Any ideas?

I read the manual and it takes down the same as the garand. the problem is it is not breaking down like it should.

Some rifles definately have their own personality when it comes to removing the op rod. The tab can be fit lose or snug, depending...

Make sure the tab is aligned in the slot properly and give it the old up and out motion with as many variables as you can till you find the trick.

yea. im getting it to the tab but it wont go up. it does appear that the notch is not quite as deep as the op rail. I fought with it for an hour or so the other night and could not get it to go up into the notch. and yes I live in sno county. here is some pics, hopefully they will come through okay.
