Drivers Arrested for Speeding at 141 Mph

Jun 27 05:30 PM US/Eastern

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - The Washington State Patrol says a trooper arrested two men speeding 141 mph on I-5 in Snohomish County. The patrol says the trooper thought he was hearing an airplane early Sunday as the cars whizzed by going north, a 2005 BMW 330i with a 2007 Honda Accord right behind.

The trooper caught up with the cars because they had stopped for a passenger from one of the cars to get into the other.

The 22-year-old driver of the BMW, and the 18-year-old driver of the Honda were booked into the Snohomish County Jail for charges of reckless driving.

The speedometer in my 2002 Honda Accord maxed out at 140 MPH.  The fastest I've gone was 95 MPH, I think.  Got a ticket for going 86 MPH in 60 MPH zone once, though.

I cannot be the only one here thinking "When I was 22 I was driving an M151A2..."

When I wuz 22, I ran around on a 1974 Norton 850 Commando. As far as speed goes, my personal best is 147 mph on a Yamaha FJ1100, Mountain Highway (SR7). Bike had more balls than I did, though. I ran outa road too soon. Probably the biggest reason I'm alive today.

At 22 I had a 68 Pontiac LeMans....[think GTO without the badges]
It was plenty fast.

I'm sure glad I never got caught riding around my Hyabusa at 200mph

If they did pull out after me I would have never known it.

My friends Kevin had one with a 350 and 4:11 gears. You could smoke 'em all day long.

The other hotrod we had at our disposal was a 1975 Caprice Classic Convertible. It had a 400 with a B&M 4-71 blower and 2:88 gears. 160MPH car if you gave it enough road. Amazing we didn't kill ourselves in that thing.

I'll bet few of the folks here even know what an M151 is, let alone how to start one.

Define "Few"--or "more than a few"--and I may take that bet.

My Ranger's speedometer tops out at 85, I'm sure I've had it close to 100 before since the needle was way down at 6 o'clock, but the ride on those tires was rough and loud
