With the LCR coming up, I'm excited to spend some time outdoors (hunting, shooting, and fishing all go together to me).  I used to do a ton of trout fishing with my old man when I was a kid, however I haven't done much (if any) in the last 8-10 years.  Being from Commiefornia I know about trout season down there but know nothing of WA lakes, seasons, permits, etc.  I was wondering if anyone in the WAHTF did a lot of lake or stream fishing?

Ifish4U is a salmon and steelhead guide.  If you want someone to show you the ropes, he's your man.  I start fishing every year in April during the lake opener and I usually stop fishing some time in late March.  Last year I caught a salmon or steelhead every month of the year!  My goal is two years in a row.

Trout are bait, unless you can find some of the lakes that stock trophy trout.  We're only a few months away from the trout opener, so if you need some pointers, PM me and I'll send you in the right direction.

Be fore-warned.  If you the BRD is costly, wait until you get bit by the fishing bug.  I did have 5 boats, but I'm down to 3 now, and I have about 35 rods.  One for every situation.

My uncle and I usually do a week of mountain lake and stream fishing in late summer, about the time the bulls are running... dang those guys get big.  The Twisp/Winthrop area is a great place to try.  Opps, I mean DONT FISH FOR MY FISH.. go... fish out of a tub somewhere.  Actually, you might catch something out of the manholes in seattle, but thats another story...

As far as regulations etc, I dont know much... I just get a license, look at the maps of where is allowed, and have at it.

Here's the link to the WDFW site. The fishing regulations are there as a pdf.

Trout fishing isn't the best in Washington. Its mostly lake with a few streams that have trout. The Yakima is your best bet for a true trout stream. Rocky Ford is another. Both are over the mountains on the east side. Lots of lakes with trout though. You might consider hitting Pass Lake now if your looking to get to fishing right away. Also our license runs from March to March.

There's a ton of good fishing in WA ( lakes - rivers etc ) Everything from Dept of fish and game stocked local lakes to hiking your ass 1/2 a day alpine lakes in the scattered throughout the cascades.

I do alot of bay fishing ( Puget Sound ). The fish are BIGGER and if you get familiar w/ a zone / area ... you can usually have real good success.

I'll be fishing in the Roche Harbour salmon derby the weekend of Feb. 9th with some buddies. Big fish is worth a cool $10K

Make certain you are up to speed on the regs / locations / closures / restricted areas etc. All of Washingtons waters ( lakes - rivers - salt water ) have some of the most difficult to understand regs as any where I have ever been.

Just before winter I picked up a boat that I take out to the Sound... we sort of missed the best times for fishing, but I am also looking to fish more and am learning, maybe we can hook up and get some fishing in.

The wife and I went to Roche Harbour just before the bad weather hit and saw the poster for that derby, sounds kool, but wasn't the entry fee something like $200?!?!?

I would be surprised if it's that low. I didn't pay the entry fee. I am the Liquor supplier

We'll be on a 60 footer ( 4 of us ). We all know how to powerfish area 7 / San Juan Islands ... so we stand as good a chance as any boat on the water to win it.

Win / lose or draw ... it's still an awesome time. I have fished for a week with these guys up in Nootka Sound BC - Barclay Sound - 1000 Is group etc. If you catch a derby winner , it just makes a great trip alittle better.

I fish for trout mainly. But I love all kinds of fishing. I try to go for salmon when I can. I think this year I am going to try and find some good crappie spots.

I try to fish atleast once a week during the spring time, sometimes I'll go 3-4 times a week. My boat isn't huge but it is good enough for most lakes around here.

I'm still looking for a small gas motor so I can stop fooling with recharging the battery on my trolling motor.

Some of the more premium lakes ( ie: great fishing spots ) have gas motor restrictions. Pass lake ( near Deception pass ) and Dry falls lake ( eastern WA north of the sun lakes ) are just a couple I can think of off the top of my head. Meaning if your boat has a gas engine ... it's a no no ( battery trolling motors are the schiznitz on those lakes )

I grew up in the mid-west bass fishing small farm ponds. There's alot of nice fish in small places. I once caught a 5lb small mouth bass in a creek that was barely deep enough to cover my tennis shoes while I walked along.

One of my favorite things in Kentucky was to wade the little creeks. It was not unusual to catch 50+ fish an hour in them. I never caught any monsters, but would catch a bunch.

I don't care about catching big fish, although that is nice. I'm just happy to go out and catch fish. I'd rather have lots of smaller fish than 1 or 2 big ones.

Agree 100%

I'd take a fun day on a 10' jon boat sittin' on top a monster school of crappies and fillin' a bucket full of them as opposed to trolling all morning on a yacht in hopes of hookin' up to 1 or 2 bigguns.

It's all about relaxing and enjoying yourself

Now that you say I think you are right, I think the fee is $500!!!! Anytime ya want to go out on the sound with us you are welcome to come, I am hoping the weather will get better soon and I am going back out to have more fun!
