I'm hungry.

What is your favorite restaurant or place to eat?  What is your favorite/most memorable (in a good way here)?
I don't think I really have a favorite place, but the best meal I ever ate was fresh caught beer battered cod after a 2 week long hiking trip in Canada.

Similar, or maybe your post brought on the memory...

Port Something-or-another (Hardy?), on the west side of Vancouver Island. A vendor served up some fresh beer battered halibut, right on the dock one afternoon. Very tough to beat. After I was stuffed, I ordered one more batch. Too good!

Best I ever hade was Rainbow trout caught in the AM and cooked for breakfast. Camping in the Packwood area.

Best mushroom steak ever, Wild Bill's hunting lodge, near the East gate to Yellowstone.

I like food that's high in unusual chemical content. (Like SPAM) Must be genetic, since my brother actually likes the MREs he's given.

Hummm I see a pattern going here...

Best I've had... Caught a handful of striped bass @ lake havasu (az/cali border).  Kept them in a live well.  Cut their heads off while still moving, cleaned them wrapped them in foil with some olive oil and home made salsa.  Cooked in foil over an open fire and had fish tacos about and hour after the last one was caught.  Had several beers while hanging out with good friends, family, great live music (friend on the guitar), all on the waterfront, and a hangover in the morning!

Can you read my mind? I use to eat a spoonful of that every day to 'keep my salt leaves up'.

The steak and potatoes that are traditional at Endex/Redeployment are always good--once it was Steak and Lobster!  (That Mess Daddy had cooked for Rummy the first time around, and wound up getting investigated for, um, fiscal malfeasance.  They slapped his wrist, reassigned him. Damned good Mess Daddy!  Cared more about putting on a good feed than details like pinching pennys.)

It was my first thought when I read your description. I used to cuss the stuff, but ol' 1GR convinced me to try it in cheap beer.... pretty tasty. Now I actually own a bottle of it.

Is that like putting Tabasco in Corona if you are limeless?  You HAVE to kill the urine taste somehow...

The trend appears to be what you ate, vs the restaurant you ate it in ... so:

Nothing beats same day caught halibut or King salmon ( or blackmouth ) / Silver - Coho salmon.

Until you have caught a fish / cleaned it / cooked it ( properly ) and ate it all within a few hour period ... you'll never know what I am talking about.

I have personally caught 100's of halibut and 1000's of salmon in the brief 15 yrs I have lived here in WA.

Nothing beats it ... I'll say it again NOTHING BEATS IT.

For me..

Any good Tex/Mex meal is good to go, but honestly I would rather have a good authentic Mexican meal cooked up for me by a family of hot little senorita's

One of the best meals I have had was from a Tri-Tip street vendor for the Elks club in Santa Maria, CA.

They had the full on BBQ/smoker, about two cows worth of Tri-Tip on the BBQ and in the smoker, rubbed down with fresh sea salt, garlic and onions.

Served on sourdough rolls with BBQ'ed beans, 'tater salad and half an orange.
