Made it 32 miles one way, in a 14 passenger van, no chains. Get to try making it home in about an hour, if dayshift does not call it a snow day. The trip in made me realize what the most hazardous condition during incliment weather is........ 4 back seat drivers. I could handle the snowy roads, spinning hoopties, Hilltop sled runs (used to be roads), red light runners and all that, but the backseat drivers are by far the most distracting influence on the road. First SOB to open his mouth this morning is getting handed the keys and a one finger salute. |
| Day shift yesterday, no problem. Maybe 3 miles each way. Then had to work more like 50 miles away for a grave shift. Just kept a nice safe speed and looked in wonder at the morons that were off the road. That little stretch from I5 to WA18 had like a dozen cars off to the sides. I had no problems at all. It took me a bit longer to get to Kent, but I'm not going to try doing 70 on ice. Ok, I did have a small problem this morning pulling into the parking lot of my apartment complex. The entrance itself is a bit steep and I had to get just the tiniest bit of a running start (like maybe 3 feet) to make it. Jettas freaking rock! |

I had to bring my dad into work... No problem at all, popped the Ranger into 4wd and off I went. Bear Prairie(As far east as you go in Clark County..) was a sheet of ice all the way down, but beyond that it was okay. SR-14 and I-5 are clear but the asshat drivers still won't do over 50. |
Didn't vote, BTW, off today anyway. Mrs. Drang has stayed home with a cold, possibly made worse by the weather, certainly encouraged by road conditions. |

Up at 5am, headed down to Olympia from the Bremerton area early enough to miss all the bridge traffic. Conditions were....ummm..."less then ideal", and I went between 20 and 35mph just about the whole way because of fellow drivers being stupid. Watched a logging truck with a full load try tapping his brakes and the rear of his log trailer started a nice slow slide to the right and nearly took out a PT cuiser right in front of me. Auto FWD is a great option to have on a vehicle. Also, don't forget folks, rolling friction is where its at. As I was leaving the court building in Oly, I was comming up to a stop sign behind a semi. There was about an inch of packed snow and ice on the road with a small smattering of gravel tossed on top. I tried slowing down but even with auto FWD, I started sliding. Brakes weren't working as the rear of this trailer got closer and closer. So, Instead of hitting the brakes even harder as is most peoples reaction, I forced myself to go against my instinct and let off the brake and once the tires started rolling again, I was able to steer clear and slow properly at a distance of my choosing. When in doubt, drive SMOOTHLY and keep the wheels rolling to maintain control. Once you start sliding, shit goes wrong. |

By 9am only 4 people had arrived. The doors stayed closed because only production staff came in, the customer service people, and support staff all stayed home. Three big cheeses rolled in sometime after that, one more guy came in just to get away from his wife. I left hours early at 1:30 and only one person was left in the building. 8 out of about 20 people came to work today. |
Bought the same percentage as my work 63 out of 139. My department was the only one fully staffed. Man did we get stuff done! |

I've spent the whole day trying to get my Linksys WRT54G router to work. If I get the firewall working I can work from home just like the office. I've exhausted the Boeing help line, the Verizon help line and am currently on hold with the Linksys help line. I have to admit that the technicians so far seem knowlegable and did not insult my intelligence (or get me working ).I try Linksys last because I want them to have the opportunity to say its a hardware issue. |
| I had no problem getting in tonight (I'm working RFN) and arrived early. Last night, however, I had a bitch of a time getting here and was about 12 minutes late. I hate all of the idiots that have no idea how to drive and have to get stuck in the way, abandon their vehicles in lanes of travel, or go really, really slow--even up hills. Two of the roads on my normal route here were closed d/t fucktards crashing, so I had to take a very circuitous route. Getting home in the morning was the same deal. |

Three hours with the party at customer service.
