Well boys and girls... I am just now recovering from yestedays OC(pepper) spray qualification... It truly is like bobbing for french fries in a deep frier! Its the most painfull thing ever, and my buddy who was shot 3 times with an ak, agreed he would rather be shot again, that be OC'd again. If a cop ever pulls that shit out on you, do what he tells you or get far far away!

I've got a couple of friends who gave this a try (in the interest of science of course). I don't remember the type of spray, it was about 10 years ago. Guy #1 took a full hit in the face and still chased the other guy down and tackled him. He was not at 100% be he was still capable of inflicting harm. Maybe they've improved the stuff in the intervening years. I certainly wouldn't want to take a blast of it, but I also wouldn't count on it to protect me. |
There are three types of OC... mist, stream, and foam Each one getting worse progressivly. You "can" still attack someone after getting hit, but it will be the hardest thing you have ever done. I mean You have to be DEAD set on your goal, and you still wont last long. My guess is your friend got hit with the mist/spray, and it was probably the crap from wal-mart. not shaking the bottle reduces the effect as well. |
Ill take it compared to the OC... It may suck but it wont run down on my junk a day later when I shower 
When I was in boot camp I was one of the last recruits to go to the gas chamber. The little quonset hut was so smokey you couldnt see the other side. It sucked and I wont lie...... But it was nothing compared to that god damn pepper spray |
I was just glad my bladder was empty when I "Volunteered" to be hit by a tazer, they were nice and clipped the leads to me instead of shooting them into me, still got little burns from them. All over pain and inability to do anything other than scream like a little girl. But, like somebody said before, it doesn't reactivate and run down onto your junk in the shower the next day, either. For OC training I buy a couple jumbo bottles of saline solution to flush my eyes with. Plus we always have a running hose nearby to try to wash it off with. Best thing to do is to try to hang upside down and wash it off, so it doesn't run down onto your body. NEVER rub or touch your eyes, you're just forcing it into your pores, and it will come out when it gets wet again. And if you can get away with it, don't shave right before getting hit with it, either. Trust Me. Skillets? What level of exposure did you get? Full blast in the face with eyes open (level 1) or just one eye, or getting some rubbed beneath your eyes or what? We have to be full face blast, and then run a course where you have to fight off an assailant, protect your weapon, low and high blocks, and then find our patrol car and use the radio, we video tape it all so that when somebody gets hauled into court for excessive use of force for spraying somebody, we can prove the MP or DA cop has been properly trained, and knows the consequences of it. Some funny ass videos out there, people running into trees and walls, grown men crying on their knees. The best are the guys it takes a few seconds to affect. They think they're tough shit, then BAM, crying babies! |
It was exactly the same course as youre talking about. The gunny who sprayed my face was a real sadist. He got me right in the eyes with a 5 second spray. other guys were geting 2-3 second sprays, but this particular gunny was a satanistic bastard. I had to open my eyes, and then start the course. It was pure hell, but I did really good. If anyone ever sprays me with that shit I will kill them. Not joking. Even if its a month or year later they will die. |

Huh...funny. I got OC qualified in the police academy and didn't think it was all that bad. I mean, yea, it sucked for the short term, but I still wouldn't want to be shot with an AK instead. I guess its all relative I suppose. And yes, in case you're wondering, I took a full face blast, cocked my head at the instructor (with one eye open as the other kinda glued itself shut at that point) and so he hit me again. I was also the first one in the class to get it, so he tried to make an example out of me. Even with two full face blasts, I still don't remember it being THAT bad that I would rather be shot. Immediatly after I was able to easily navigate my way to the baby shampoo and the water hose to clean off. Chris |
They said something in the class about how there is a solvent in the mix that helps the pepper get into your pores. I doubt that the pepper content was higher, but the solvent may have been improved. Its my buddy that was shot ive never been shot thank god) that claims he would rather be shot again. Its now 2 days later and the pain is finaly gone. I think the pain would still be here if I had been hit with AK fire. However, the actual moment of pain must be worse, considering all the comments from the serriously wounded types. |
