I am currently shopping around for a safe and have realized I know very little about them. I am looking to spend about $1000 on one and really dont know where to start. Any advice on what to look for? So far the only advice i have been given is to go to the sportsmans show in february as i would be able to get a good deal there. |

But the biggest safe you can afford. Make sure it's fire rated. Make sure it can be bolted down. Make sure that it has a solid locking mechanism. Make sure that you have help moving it. Make sure that you read the manual before attemtping to change the combination. Bullseye in Tacoma has some good safes at good prices. The WAC shows also have them for good prices. |

Costco has a 30 cu.ft. safe for $999 (shipping included) www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=10048663&whse=&topnav=&browse=&s=1 |
My safe is the exact same size as that one. I purchased it at Bullseye for $650.00 with no tax. PCR-00 and I moved it easily. I'm actually thinking about buying another one. |
How many rifles does yours currently hold? Do you have the whole thing to setup to hold rifles or is part of it converted to shelves? |
It holds 9 or 10 on the left hand side no problem. I currently have shelves on the right hand side. But they easily come down and would allow more storage. The entire shelving system will come down and allow one big open safe. ETA: My Safe

Not having researched your criteria, I would recommend looking at A.G. English. The safe I bought from them was not the same as what you are looking for, though even with shipping, they were the cheapest price I could find to get the safe I wanted to my driveway. Worth a look anyway. |

Buy bigger than you think you will need. Shop around for used safes ( hard to find, but you can save 20-30% ) I bought a 26 gun Browning safe used ( looks brand new - perfect ) a few years ago for $650 from a guy listing in The Little Nickel. It's easily an $1100 dollar safe. Good news if you are buying brand new, 0% sales tax on gun safes in WA state Best of luck |
Sonofabitch! I just bought the Costco one...AGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!! |
Link to Sentry Safe |
Yes, there's 2 holes on the bottom, and 2 on the back. Got it anchored on the bottom right now. On the box, it claimed to be 320lbs. But on the website, it's 250lbs. It's heavy enough, that nobody is going to carry it out, without a handtruck. |

I'd recommend Northwest Safe, good prices on serious safes (fireproof, quality construction). As others have said, GO Large, for a few hundred more you can get a real good safe that will hold much more!!!!!!!!!! |
