In all seriousness I am sorry to hear it sixguns but be careful with soft tissue injuries, broken bones can heal better than soft issue, when my leg and ankle was crushed the bone nitted quickly, the doc had me put weight on it to stimulate bone growth at four weeks and i was walking with a cane in six weeks but the muscle is still giving me problems two and half years laters still showing a bad bruise. Take it easy on that injury and give it time to heal. |

If you deep ice it (bucket of ice with water, stick in foot up to calf) for about 15 minutes at a time, three or four times, with 20-30 minutes in between, you will get a lot of the deep heat and inflammation out of the sprain. Surface icing can't get into the deep tissues as well. Continue this for a couple of days. Keep it elevated the rest of the time and use compression to help keep the swelling down. Remember: RICE - Rest Ice Compress Elevate A course of treatment of this is how we got football and basketball players with severe sprains back on the field/court quicker. Don't forget to use Ibuprofen as well. You can do up to 800 mg for a brief period. ETA: Stay off it as long as you have pain in it. Once you use it put a good brace on it if you are going to be stressing it in any way. If it turns very blue/black over the next couple of days that is old blood working up from somewhere and indicates that there may have been a tear in there somewhere. Another visit to the doctor if it isn't feeling better and looks like that is a good idea. |
