| Anybody have a good source for a 4 wheel drive vehicle? I was looking to buy a used vehicle for some off road open air fun, but not a JEEP! (biggest pile of shit on earth). |
|
Suzuki Samurai? Toyota FJ-40 Land Cruiser? Older military series Land Rover or newer Defender 90? Hummer H1? 73-91 K5 Blazer? Geo Tracker? Nissan Patrol? Mercedes Unimog? S&N full on tube rock buggy? USGI M35 or M816? M151? Edited to add an IH Scout. How could I forget about the Scout? |

I saw a nearly intact '72 International 3/4 or 1 ton pickup at the wrecking yard the other day. Made me think of you. |
I actually had one for my first on-road 4x4. I did have a CJ2A before I was old enough to license it and it saw VERY little road use. The CJ2A had a 283 chevy with those stock 5.36 or 5.38:1 gears. It would never have made much of a highway machine. The Bronco on the other hand had a 289 and was *almost* roadworthy. It saw a lot of road use but if the Highway Patrol had ever pulled me over that would have been the end of it. The lift kit was home made and pretty nasty. Someone had just re-welded the spring mounts lower and shoved who knows what springs in there. It was quite unstable at freeway speeds. The rear seat (which allowed it to be titled as station wagon rather than truck) was just thrown in the back. When going over large bumps whoever was sitting back there would bounce out of the seat. Ah, the good ole days. Glad they are over. |
Sounds pretty good. Perhaps we'll have to hook up for a photo op... old & new... Scrambler/Unlimited. I plan on running 35's on the Unlimited. It won't have a v8 but I'm thinking it will be sufficient. It already has the newer d44 in the back and I'm going to get an Atlas II and some ARB lockers. Hopefully this will all happen in the next two months. |

This seems like a typo or something but $2900 for a '97 Jeep TJ: seattle.craigslist.org/car/160042327.html

that poor old 40 is in sad shape, alot of rot(IMOP not worth fixin)....and there is more you cant see, it "might" be a decent trail rig. dual tanks were not OEM. really IMOP the best 40s to restore are 76-83. the early stuff needs a complete drivetrain swap, but the latter years suffer from even worse rot. I would rather have a mechanical project than a body project. I have a much nicer one I would sell, its 65 fj40(last year of the corrugated hard top), owned by a church in Eastern WA for ages, the motor is toast though(bad rods) but no rot, some surface rust. ![]() and I have a 78 fj55 I would also sell.....take the 78 drivetrain and put in the 65 and it would be a neat 40. I love my 66 Fj45, here is a pic of the orignal owner, he ran a chainsaw shop in Napa CA, when I got it the doors said Stihl :) ![]() I have a 2f(with fj60 elec ignition), 3 speed(on tree still) disc brake front end, full floater rear(from a 78 fj45) with ARB locker. I swaped back to the 33x9.5s as without PS......well its a PITA ;) the long beds are 1.25 ton...and i have had that and then some in it. the 45 shortbeds with the removable tops are nice, but stay away(unless mint and your short) the 45's with the fixed tops. out in Gig harbor there are 3 of the long beds running around and I know of a few shortbeds out in the woods. my Cruiser project days are over, my keepers are all done and i am now getting rid of some "excess" just sold my other 82 fj40.....thats one I should have kept
