Has anyone seen a good deal locally for one? I was thinkning something fire proof, 18-25 guns, and weight around 500 pounds. I have looked at GI Joes (Tacoma) and they didn't really have any in stock right now. Anyone seen any sales? Good deals? |
Gun safes are exempt from sales tax in Washington. Which is handy, because a really good, large safe can cost $1,000 or more. I bought my safe from NW Safe Co (out of Enumclaw.) I got it when they were closing their Tukwila location. It is a Liberty Safe that is fire rated for 45 minutes at 1,200 degrees and is 25 cu ft. It is supposed to hold 25 long guns, but I can't get more than maybe 16 or 18 in there. The problem is two fold - optics and pistol grips. Almost every rifle I own has one or the other, or both! ARs take up more volume than other rifles. I'm sure 25 Rem 700s with iron sights would fit just fine. I've also seen moderately priced safes at the following locations: Lowe's in Tukwila ($799 to $899 for a 23 cu ft safe.) Costco in Issaquah (don't remember the price.) This one at Costco.com looks like a screaming deal: Cannon 30 cu ft Fire Rated Safe for $999.99 delivered! I don't think you could beat that price, delivered, for that size safe anywhere else. |

Wow, good to know. I've been sharing a safe with my parents @ their place so I have not yet had the pleasure of shopping for one of my own. My handguns are stored in a regular ol' safe here at the apartment. One day, I hope to fill a gun safe with over a dozen of my own long guns. Trey |

I am very happy with the Liberty safe I purchased from Security Solutions NW (AKA Bellingham Lock & Safe). No sales tax, and free delivery and setup. Once the delivery and setup were factored in, no other online or non-local option was viable, since I can't transport or maneuver a 1000lb safe on my own. And at the time, the only delivery option from Costco was they would pull the truck up to your curb, with no liftgate. You had to get the safe off the truck and into your house. It looks like they have an option to at least unload them now. And I was told the sales tax exemption is only for long gun safes. I would think the intention for the exemption would be to have everyone secure all their guns, not just long guns, so that doesn't make much sense. Make sure you get one big enough the first time, they're easy to outgrow.

Like FALgal said, we bought ours at Costco, it was $700 and is a 28 long gun safe with shelves on top for pistols, papers and stuff. We will be out of room in it in the next year or so, so our options is to buy a smaller safe for just important papers and free up that space or buy another, same size or bigger. |

| Just got back from the Puyallup show. Northwest Safe is having a Christmas sale. Plus they are throwing in reduced delivery, a gun rack, free safe art, and handgun safe. I've been shopping for the better part of the last month and this was the best deal I've found. Thought I would pass this along before tommorrow. |

I bought one of these about 6 months ago. I'm completely happy with it. No fancy lock and only 4 active bolts but has the thickest door i have ever seen on safe. He raised his prices 25 bucks, but well worth it IMO. portland.craigslist.org/spo/115231548.html He's located near Portland. Art ETA spelling fixes |
Nice looking set-up for the price ( considering it's new ) Be patient, shop around & be ready to pony up the cash as soon as you see what you are looking for. I picked up an excellent / like new Browning safe a couple years ago that was used ( was in new condition ) for $750. It's twice the quality / security of the GI Joes / Lowes models. I see used safes for sale regularly here in Seattle. best of luck |
