A question for the hive mind;

I am leaning toward one of the 2 1/2 x 10 variables for use on my DSA h-bar. Intended use is for Western WA brush hunting & target.

I like the lower power for field of view for hunting @ closer ranges, but my 55 yr old eyes need the magnification for target shooting.

I am considering the IOR for the Schott glass, but a bit worried re/customer svc stories I've read .

The other one that I like is the Leupold LPS,, American made & a good rep for customer svc.
Also, the lower profile turrets seem like they would be less likely to get in the way.

The IOR is a bit less $$ than LPS,, but I plan on keeping this rig a long time.

Thoughts ? Opinions?

Thanks;
Mike

I think I'm too sexy for prison. In my opinion, the weather here is not wet enough.

Oh, you mean on the optics? Buy the best ones you can - clarity and sharpness matter more than magnification. Try some out and buy, an optic is one thing I pretty much won't mail order (again).

I really like my IOR even though only a ten power scope the light gathering capability is great and the scope is good to a thousand yard and low light in the woods and twilight but the heavy glass in a steel tube is very heavy.

If I had it to do over I would go with a lighter weight scope.

In the long run I think you'll be happier with the Leupold. The IOR's I've handled all seem to be on the heavy side.

I have a Leupold LPS on one of my rifles. I can bring it along to one of the upcoming shoots if you want to check it out firsthand.

My personal opinion is 2 thumbs up.

Thanks, Strat & OdT;

Weight is somewhat a concern,  the FAL is already heavy, but on the other hand, I'm gettin' too dern OLD ta go chargin' up San Juan Hill,, so I'll just lay back and suppress the bunnies  zombies from 600+  so if the IOR ends up being 1/2 pound heavier than the LPS, I'll just deal with it.  Ruggedness is a very good thing in my book.

I flat can't afford a 2 kilobuck USO, but I want as good a scope as I can get short of that.

I am planning to go to the shoot this weekend, so hope to see y'all there.

edit;
Are there any toy stores locally who carry those 2 scopes?
