My kid, full of angst, finally tells me why he's been so bent lately.

He says he's not looking forward to 40 years of employment after school.

I look at his Mom and realize we've set this example of hard work for him only to have it serve as an example of futility.  I'm almost speechless until I realize that's probably how the '60s got started.  Thankfully I still have a few more years to work on him....

Take him out to see the homeless and let him know that's what the alternative to "40 years" of employment is.

Tell him that if he does not want to spend 40 years working he better get a job making a lot of money.
