Long story short, I have NRA Instructor training in Colorado next week. Flying with 30 minute change of aircraft in SLC. Is there a UPS rule against shipping my handgun and shotgun to myself? I've contacted the instructor there and he'll sign for them. I just wonder how much crap UPS twits will throw at me.. |
You will probably have to go to the actual hub...Then hope you get a "UPS twit" that know the corporate rules, since alot of them don't. As long as its going to a dealer or gunsmith. My hub usually does't ask but they can ask for proof. The handgun will have to go Next Day Air and the rifle can ship Ground if you like. Chances are if you have them sent to something that sounds legit then they might just ask if its going to a dealer. |

www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#b8 Perfectly fine to do so by the ATF. However, UPS is the unknown in this instance. From my reading, you should be fine shipping it to yourself, but you must find a droid that knows what they are doing. www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/prepare/guidelines/firearms.html When I shipped a handgun to a dealer last month using UPS, the guy behind the counter seemed to know what he was doing. He did want to see a copy of the FFL though. This was down at the Tukwila Hub on Andover. |
Already have the .GOV regs printed and ready to go, good idea to print out theirs and take it along.. |
Yes good idea because their rules will be different... Cheers |

Got er Done! Took me about half an hour dealing with an annoying counter bitch who kept repeating "we can't ship guns unless you're a dealer." I politely asked to see her manager and was told "She's busy on the phone and I have to close up." I told her I would wait for her manager to come to the front desk, where I showed the ATF regs expressley permiting firearms shipping to oneself for hunting and other legitimite uses, then the UPS rules right from the website: Shipping Firearms Special Procedures for Shipping Firearms Use These UPS Services for Your Firearm Shipment Firearms will be transported only between licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, and licensed collectors, as defined in the United States Gun Control Act of 1968, law enforcement agencies of the United States or of any department or agency thereof and law enforcement agencies of any state or department agency, or political subdivision thereof, and between persons not otherwise prohibited from shipping firearms by federal, state or local law and when such shipment complies with all applicable federal, state and local laws. After another 10 minutes of the manager staring at the printout, stating they had been trained not to ship firearms without a FFL, she finally relented if I were to use the department's credit card (I was in uniform). They agreed to ship it the next morning via overnight to my destination where it will be signed for and waiting for me Monday morning. I didn't get angry, but I let them know in no uncertain terms that I wouldn't leave until I was satisified. I guess it helps to get there 10 minutes before closing! |
