I just finished my latest AK build last weekend, and thougt I'd share.  It is a Bulgarian AK-74 in 5.45x39.  It is my third AK build so far, and I am finding myself becoming addicted to building them.

We like AK's at the LCR.

IIRC, I have seen two of them bumped there. One till the handguards burned.

No idea what you are talking about......

BTW, 75-100 round drums work best

Is it cheaper building them than buying one already assembled?

It can be cheaper to build.  It  depends on what tools you use for the build, what tools already own vs. have to buy, and the number of rifles you build.  The parts for the build will run roughly half of the price of a completed AK.  The more rifles you spread the cost of the tools over, the lower the per rifle cost.  I put about $200 into build tools, which is rougly break-even for one rifle.  So, building only one may not make sense, if the aim is to save money.  But, every build beyond that is considerably cheaper than buying a finished rifle.

Shoot me an e-mail if you want any details on what is involved in building an AK.  It is much more involved than building an AR.

Since I know where you live maybe I'll stop by and use your tools, drink your beer and piss on the bathroom floor, would you mind if I also bring a small tent and camp out in your yard until you uhhhhh I mean WE get the rifle done?

Thats the cool thing about building an AK, it takes much more effort to get one together.  It's no fun to put a AR together in a few hours, versus working on a AK for a while and getting everything right so it will run properly.  That build looks slick, and you put the optic rail on it too, what kind of optic are you thinking about putting on that bad boy???

If you are in Wester WA...I'd love to help you do a build.  I've been itching to do one for the hell of it, but don't have the tools or experience.

I'll buy lunch.

My Arsenal AK is sweeeeet! I emptied a 30rd mag in a couple seconds up at SVRC. I was going to have a Bulgarian kit built but I got tired of waiting for a good recevier. I ended up getting an Arsenal Inc SLR-105A1R.

I just had to put an optic rail on this one!  I haven't played with the AK scopes first hand, so I am kind of running in the dark on this one.  I was considering just getting a 6X POSP.  I know that there are better scopes out there, but I have several other projects that need funds also!  Do you have any optic suggestions?

Go with a DOT Sight, I stay away from the 4X and higher scopes as there isn't a point to go that powerful on a AK IMHO.  Freedom Optics.com has all kinds of cool Russian optics for ya.  I just bought a Kobra for my last project, it very cool, there are AN-PS, AN-PKS, and others.  You can get a good red dot for $150.00, thats not bad.  Then you will have a hoot shooting steel and the likes with that 74, YEEE...HAWWWWW.....

I've actually got four extra Aimpoints sitting around, and was planning on putting one on a mount, but also getting a scope for fun.  It is always fun to have a few extra things to play with.
