Hi all. A couple of months ago I took a job near connellsville and I live in Wesmoreland county. Originally from central PA.
I'm looking for places to shoot in the area. Any recommendations? |

Check out South Connellsville Rod and Gun. As far as I know accepting members. Not a spectacular range, not bad. Fairly inexpensive. Youngwood Sportsmen near Youngwood also not bad. Both have websites.
Depends a lot what you're looking for at a range. Near work or home (where in Westmoreland county?) Welcome to the area.....been here 35+ years after growing up in the Rockies. Needing to work for a living is a bitch! Have to admit Westinghouse treated me fairly well. Company is changing of late but I'm retired. |

Welcome to the SW part of the state! Not from around your way, but most ranges are private. Try looking up public ranges that the Game Commission maintains. Note the game Commission ranges have a lot of restrictions (have to have a hunting license or use permit), limits on rate of fire and rounds in magazine, etc. |

I grew up in Greensburg and I actually took my hunter's safety course at Youngwood Sportsman. My father is a member there as well. Its a nice property, they have a few ranges at differing distances. I don't know if they have any magazine restrictions or ammo restrictions, but its not far from the heart of New Stanton.
If you don't mind the 30ish min drive, Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportsmen is a nice place to shoot as well. |

First off OP, welcome to SW PA. I'm sure you're bearing witness to a mix of some-of-the-same and something-different with regard to our state; glad to have you around -- this really is a great area. As far as clubs go, a great facility in our area is the Sportsmen's Association of Greensburg. Unfortunately, they police their membership in such a way that I, myself, have been on a waiting list since July of 2014 for becoming a member -- I'm told I may actually make it in at the turn of 2017. I currently belong to a little-ole-Slovak club by the name of Hecla, with a lackluster range, but it's 10 minutes from my house. Unfortunately, they, too, have a closed membership at this time also. Given your residence in New Stanton, I might feel inclined as to suggest that you consider Clairton Sportsmen's club http://www.clairtonsc.org/. It's probably about a 20-30 minute drive, and in Allegheny Co, but it's a good facility that I believe still has an open enrollment. I'm not a member, but they're good people. |
