I got a UPS Next Day Air label to return a pistol for service.
It lists it as "Machine Parts" This is from the manufacture but does that sound like the 'norm' for this??? |

My understanding is if you use USPS you must ship FFL to FFL. If you ship UPS or FedEx you must notify the carrier you are shipping a firearm, and that firearm must be shipped overnight.
There might be different rules if you're shipping the slide or some other individual part. Might be best to verify with the carrier you're shipping through. |

Box it up, slap on the label. Drop it off at UPS hub or call them for a pick up. The franchise stores are the ones that get all upset if you try and ship a firearm through them. |

One more time....
Federal law requires you to notify the contract carrier that you are shipping a pistol. Putting it in a box marked "machine parts" will only let the carrier off the hook if your package is stolen- they won't pay when they find out it was a gun. It also gets you on the hook when your "machine parts" turn up at a crime scene. It's amazing how much bad advice +1 you can get around here... |

Not a big deal...
I tried the UPS Store and Ask them up front if they had a problem shipping a firearm to the manufacture... No Problem, we can't do it! No drama, no knuckle biting, just a straightforward answer with a smile. She then offered to pack/insure it so I could just do a drop off at the main UPS facility, which is what I did - $7.50 After my next appointment, I stopped in at UPS in East Petersburg, told her what it was, she smiled that it was already packed, paid and ready to go. Then reminded me to wait a moment for my receipt and tracking number I recall shipping by USPS with that much ease in the 80's! I wish the manufacture was as easy to deal with (second trip to factory and still doesn't work)
