Ok got myself an interview with Percision Drilling starting as a floorhand? I need a job and never work on something like this. I would rather drive a truck then be a floorhand I know I can stay warm in the winter driving. I don't want to set myself up for a let down, but what the hell is it like being a floorhand? From someone who has actually worked on a rig and would I be better off driving a truck.
Thanks |
|
Did you do a google search or ask in your interview? Its a helpers position with lots of opportunity for advancement if you work hard, have good work ethics, dont take lots of breaks and work safe. Is the company called Precision Drilling? You know floorhands can make over $20 per hour? I'd say you scored big time, son. How many of your buddies make that much? |

I work in the industry. We provide pumping applications to drillers, as one venture of our business. A lot of our pumps are used on well pads from everything from general water transfer or frac fluid, to rolling over driling mud tanks to keep the mud moving with our trash pumps(think heavy fluid.)
I visit a lot of drilling sites within the South Western PA area, primarily Washington and Green County, and I know, and see what these guys do. It's work, hands-on, straight up manual labor. But, it's an excellent job, with usually excellent benefits. I suggest you seek out as much training as you can from experienced, motivated and the highest skilled around you. If you do, it will be noticed. It's a physical job, so if you are not physically fit, you will be in a very short while. If you get hot easily, you will suffer, albeit summer is on it's way out. Fire Retardant clothes are hot and heavy, so prepare accordingly. I'd also like to add, that safety is number one. Period. If you don't feel comfortable, or something seems unsafe, I assure, it most likely is. Generally on a well pad, anyone has the authority to blow the whistle and call out if something is unsafe. Be cautious, be aware of your hands, your feet, any type of loose clothing. Use common sense. It's all fun and games until you have someone throwing chain and tripping pipe in and out and you rip a finger off. Think before you act and you'll do better than most. I'm not bashing it, being a floor hand is not for me. I've witnessed it, and while I like the work, and what they do, it's just not my thing, i prefer to go home at night. I wish you success. Also, watch out for people who are fans of the ice pipe. We're having a lot of problems with that up here now. |

Quoted: Bummer So you come here and say, "Bummer" like it sucks??? WTF. what sucks about making $10,728 a month?? I deleted my original comment, so your feelings wouldnt get hurt. |

fracking is pretty messed up. imo, the money's not worth it (it being the exposure to the gazillion chemicals and radiation [which also end up in the water supply]) Before you talk about hydraulic fracturing, and how bad it is, how much do you actually know about the process, aside from what you read in the paper, see on the news, etc? Did you know that during the drilling process, the water table is completely surpassed? Natural gas drilling, how does it work?

Way to circumvent my question. You almost sound like a tree huggin' liberal, in fact.
Guess what hoss, we've had spills and fish kills down here. Tough shit. It happens. Coal mining in Pennsylvania has caused acid mine run off for YEARS and not really many people have bitched. Much like the mines, the exploration companies foot the bill and get it cleaned up. It's a way of life in any heavy industry. Shit happens, just gotta make it right. You sound like the moon bats down here in Washington/Greene county who piss and moan, but will gladly take their lease checks when the money is offered to drill on their land. |
|
The ones doing the most bitchin are the ones that dont own any land. I know a guy making $40,000 a month from his leases. I know other people who make $100 a month. Neither are complaining. Anyone who bitches about the industry is a moron. Do you know just how bad the economy would be around here if it wasnt for all the exploration and drilling??? |

Are you talking about Jack Dalbo down at the GunRunner? If so, that's roughly what Range Resources is paying him. Jack's making money hand over fist, and he ain't complainin! The green peace trolls are the fuckin' worst. |
|
?????
wow. talk about lack of logic... last i knew, the contamination affected far more than just the land owners. so the $ argument is rather invalid, from the start. those making money from the leasing obviously decided on their own to the terms of the lease. too bad that water/pollutants don't magically stay on their land. as for creating jobs - yeah. it totally makes sense that $ for few > health for many. as for circumventing - way to be a hypocrite. you called me a liberal - do you not know what CONSERVE means? i'll give you a hint - it's the exact opposite of your stance. but who cares about water? it's not like water's essential, or anything, right? |
|
There is ample fresh water in Pennsylvania. Secondly, drilling surpasses the water table, and most aquifers. Third, with development of new brine treatment through several LOCAL companies, waste water will be even less of a problem.
Of course I know what conserve means. We're conserving plenty of households and families in South Western Pennsylvania by providing excellent jobs, excellent benefits and a future for folks who really wouldn't have had many around here due to the lack of industry. So yes, I do know what it is to conserve. Also, I'd imagine you've watched Gasland, or something like it on YouTube. Much fallacy there, and it's all been disputed and backed up by fact. You also seem to have a dire issue with the exploration companies down here, and all over PA. Do you have a problem with Consol Energy, who in Greene County runs the second largest coal preparation plant in the WORLD? Do you know about the acid mine run off taking place there,, do you know about the coal pile run off that happens at all of AEP's plants from their coal piles, that happen to sit right next to the rivers? I guess you forgot about that, or, most likely never thought of, or even knew they existed. But, they seem to be okay, they're not polluting the water.
What do you have against people that want a good career, a country that can independently produce clean burning natural gas, and a growing local economy? |
|
learn logic.
yes, i'm against coal plants, too. why would i have mentioned it in a thread about fracking, where it's 100% irrelevant? derrrrrrrrrrr. also, you might want to spend a few seconds researching your claims. if it was so safe for water, please explain susquehanna's incident, just 2 weeks ago. and, of course, the chemicals NEVER make it into the air, either... and then there's the radiation... gotta love you claiming to be conservative while being against conversation of natural resources/wildlife. There is ample fresh water in Pennsylvania.
at the moment. but not if the shale industry gets its way. produce clean burning natural gas
lolz. what a crock. clean burning means nothing when the process to obtain the gas releases fuckloads of benzene, carbon disulfide, and etc. in dallas-fort worth, (4th biggest metro area in the usa) the air emissions from fracking are greater than that of all the cars/trucks in the area. what good is money when it's killing our health/future? |

The green peace trolls are the fuckin' worst. No, I am talking about another guy who owns land in Buffalo Twp, and those two are not the only ones making big bucks. Anyone with 10 acres or more is getting a nice income. My neighbor with 25 acres got $75,000 signing bonus and if they drill here, will probably get at least 3 grand a month minimum. I only have an acre, but a hundred or so extra bucks a month is OK too. Even if i dont like the methods, I know its coming my way and either I take it, or they take it from me and dont ask. I didnt know Jack owned a bunch of land, Im not a customer of his. Where is his land? |

|
Look, I'm not gonna get into a pissing match with you about this. I've been involved with this young man and his fathers search for a good paying career for his son for several months, via IM's and postings at which time you have done what to help, other than criticise myself and EHild about our knowledge of gas wells? You are making this about you and it is not. |
|
the hypocrisy continues. you don't want to get into it... but still post, while evading the relevant material.
i'm making it about me? your (complete lack of) comprehension/perception is amazing. i was 'making it about' pennsylvania's natural resources/water supply (edit: which i stated very literally. you seem to be trying realllllllly hard to pretend to miss the obvious point)... which only affects a few million of us... |
|
i love how you repeatedly try to dismiss me as a "liberal green peace loon," for disagreeing with your ANTI-conservative stance. opinions are moot. facts > opinions.
i appear to be the only conservative in this thread. learn what words mean. if only our bodies were comprised of 2/3 money. |

I guess the thought of just leaving the thread and not attacking people never occurred to you. |

Dude, your "facts" are the same shit you hear repeated on television and in the paper! Agenda much? ??? what is that even SUPPOSED to mean? are you suggesting that fracking's destructiveness is common knowledge? hahaha. the facts are simple: it's a pretty messed up process that has a tremendous negative impact on our water supply. you apparently know that, as you continually evaded susquehanna county's recent incident... and yet, you keep criticizing me - without any actual argument. I guess the thought of just leaving the thread and not attacking people never occurred to you. why should i leave? way to reinforce my 'nation of wusses' remark... and attacking people? wow. dramatic, much? and if anyone was attacked, it was me. with that green peace liberal, al gore bullshit. |
|
Well, it is what it is.
Of course I ignored it. I'd heard nothing about it other than what you mentioned, and due to the fact that I work, I don't have time to dilly dally around and read about every fish that dies, or spill that occurs. I have my own HSE issues that need to be worried about. I can't be worried about others. |

Dude, I suggest you spend less time on the internet and more time contemplating your mental health. Also, a sentence starts with a capital letter. Have someone show you where the shift key lives. |

|
Oh for fuck sake are you retarded.
Good on you Sdsquad1, drill them holes and piss off whenheavenfell. Ya'll need some pumps to move some mud you give me a call. ETA: Don't speak on someones grammar when you have no idea how to use a fuckin' shift key, commas, etc. Goofy bastard. |
|
you don't have time to know what you're arguing about, but you never fail to let that stop you from posting!
kudos! and hypocrite, you missed a comma (in your first sentence, no less). although, it's pretty hilarious to see a grammar critique in a post that says "ya'll." hahahahahahahaa |
|
interesting. since i'm the only one that brought material here. ie: again, you're a hypocrite (troll).
2 weeks ago, susquehanna county. derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. you can run away all you want, it doesn't mean that the incident never happened. you're too busy, right? you made what, 20 posts here? and you couldn't spend 5 seconds typing it into a search bar? uh huh. |
|
The thread is not about environmental issues or your aversion to natural gas exploration.
The OP started the thread about possible employment as a floorhand. You are the prime example of an internet troll. Stop stomping peoples posts. The GD is that way. ––––––––> |
