OK, I could not resist so I emailed and asked them to consider my views on gun ownership.
Also sent one to our House rep.
This is what I got back:

Thank you for your email. Your message has been received by my office and will be carefully reviewed by a member of my staff.

Sincerely,
Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr.

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the citizens' rights to gun ownership.

I appreciate your taking the time to bring your views on this important matter to my attention. As a United States Senator, it is essential that I be kept fully informed on the issues of concern to my constituents. Be assured that I will keep your thoughts on Second Amendment rights and an individual right to carry in mind when the Senate considers this or related issues during the 111th Congress.

The concerns of my constituents are of great importance to me, and I rely on you and other Pennsylvanians to inform me of your views. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office or visit my website at http://specter.senate.gov. Thank you again for writing.

Sincerely,
Arlen Specter

Dear Friend,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the protection of your Second Amendment Right as a U.S. Citizen. This is an important issue, and I'm glad you have taken the time to share your views with me.

I believe that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees your right to own and use firearms for self-defense and sport. Please know that I will continue to advocate for upholding the Second Amendment as well as ensuring the safety of the American people. I believe our nation's gun laws are sufficient for law-abiding citizens and should not be further restricted. We need to make sure that dangerous violent felons forfeit their right to bear arms. You should know that I will also fight any attempt to reduce federal hunting acreage and maintain the opportunity to hunt for hunters in Pennsylvania

Thanks again for taking the time to share your views with me. I hope that you will continue to keep me informed of your views on this and other issues of interest to you. If you would like to receive my E-newsletter, please sign up at my website at www.dahlkemper.house.gov. If I can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Kathy Dahlkemper
Member of Congress

Now let's just see how they vote....and it was no surprise that Casey sent only this reply!!!

I sent the letter below to Specter, Casey, and modified it slightly to include language regarding the Pittsburgh police shootings and sent another copy to Sestak, and Rendell.  I got the exact same replies you did, word for word (with the exception that Sestak has so far failed to respond).  Anyone who would like to copy and paste any part or all of my letter below for the purposes of messaging your legislators is welcome to do so.

Dear Senator Casey,

Thank you for your public service.

This is the first time I've ever written to a politician to voice my opinion, but the issue of gun control has become so troubling that I can no longer remain silent, and trust that lawmakers have the best interests of law abiding gun owners at heart.

Thousands of years ago, primative humans discovered that if they chip away at a stone, they could create a sharp object that would help protect your village against rival and rogue would-be invaders.  Shortly thereafter, the rival tribes responded by taking that sharply fashioned stone and attached it to a long stick, inventing the spear, which gave them the advantage of distance from their victims.  Then, the tribes discovered that if you take a vine and attach it to two ends of a stick you could create a device (bow) which could propel the [arrrow] even further, and at higher speeds.  This evolution has continued with the development of the modern firearm.  For thousands of years, criminals have searched for ways to gain an advantage over their victims, you must agree, and at every point in history a ban of the weapon du jour only would have served to strengthen the attacker and weaken the prey.  The modern firearm is here to stay, until a new weapon evolves, superior to existing technology.  The government can not stop evolution.

And so it is today.  In every case of gun violence committed by dangerous and heartless criminals, laws were broken, either in the use, acquisition, or posession of the weapon.  Had the existing laws been honored, the crimes would not have occurred.  There are thousands of gun "rules" already.  So many that as a lawful gun owner I find it difficult to keep track of them all.  Adding more rules will only serve to confuse the lawful and will continue to be ignored by the lawless.

The most rediculous language has come up recently, with Hillary Clintons comments in Mexico, and even AG Holder's latest lingo.  Why on earth should I have more of my rights taken away because criminals are illegally exporting guns to Mexico?  How about we tell the Mexicans to strengthen their borders and figure it out for themselves?  At most, we should work in concert with Mexico to strengthen the border.  The thought of taking away more of my second ammendment rights over the illegal importation of weapons into Mexico is revolting and rediculous.

Rather than additional gun legislation, (which historically has been unsuccessful, you must admit), how about we increase the penalties for crimes committed with guns?  An eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.  Use a gun in a violent crime, and we will cut your hands off.  Ok, that might be extreme, but you get the idea.  If you want to deter criminal use of guns, get the pain to exceed the pleasure.

Please cite one instance in history, either inside the US or out, where the introduction of restrictive weapons legislation reduced the incidence of violent crime.  I'd be happy to share examples both within the US and out, where weapons bans actually increased the incidence of weapons violence––only serving to give advantage to the predator and weaken the prey.  For example, Turkey in the 1910s, USSR in the 30s, Germany in the late 30s and early 40s, China in the 50s, Guatemala in the 60s, Uganda and Cambodia in the 70s.  More recently, the UK and Australia have fresh data which further contradicts the sanity of restrictive gun laws for law abiding citizens.

Please also know that my opinions are not a small minority on this issue.  Now, more than ever, gunowners have both eyes wide open, and will cast our votes accordingly.

FWIW....I email that stinkbag Casey almost weekly and all he ever sends is that canned receipt message then several weeks later he sends another canned reply with a tone that is so condescending that it chaffes me raw. He is a low life carrer politician, just take a look at his picture on his website with his fake smarmy smirk, then take a read at his statements that are filled with an inordinate amount of, "me,me", and ,"I, I", he is a  self effacing arrogant agent for the dnc.

Yep, same here. All you'll get from Casey is that canned text. Personally I think that's worse than not responding at all. If a politician does that, you can assume it's because he disagrees with your view. But automatic, non-committal B.S. is very annoying and the mark of a spineless person.

I got the exact same response letter from Spector
