I hope you guys are happier with your Harrisburg store that I (and most of my cohorts) are with our Baltimore store. I am literally within walking distance of the relatively new BassPro in MD and almost never go there. When I do, I am ALWAYS unhappy with some aspect of my visit, particularly service, and second to that, inventory knowledge/control. This dissatisfaction began with the Grand Opening Weekend, and is reinforced every time I decide to bite the bullet and go. I actually prefer to drive ten miles to "Dick's" or "Sports Authority" or a real gunshop. I would be curious as to whether they will let you actually walk out with a rifle/shotgun during their grand opening event, in front of yuppies and other members of the non-shooting sporting fraternity. Here, they put my wife's rifle on NICS "Delay", after obviously not having actually taken the time to call it in. She had purchased rifles before and after this problem and was never delayed before or since. She called them the next day and was told it still wasn't OK'ed (after about a 2-second hold time), but when she called back in three or four days, they took about 20 minutes to determine there was "no problem, come get it". I'd call BULLSH!T, and come to think of it, we never did see a long gun box leave the store that first day. If it wasn't already paid for before they put the hold on it, we'd have skipped it. I could spend all day writing about my various misadventures and their BS. Punks. |
I had thought the same thing. Getting tooled up to join me deer hunting, my wife had decided on a Remington M700 mountain rifle in .243 or .260. We looked at them at stores and gunshows in three states, trying to find one with decent looking wood. On an impulse, we were passing the shiny new BP and decided to stop in. We looked at several rifles in .243 & .260 and they had one with amazingly beautiful wood, very dark walnut with good figure. She really liked it and so I bought it for her on the spot, we just couldn't take it home for about a week. |

I may check them out this Saturday if it rains. I’m figuring out next years ammo purchases and if they have something worth while I’ll buy a case or two. My Regular places get enough business from me on ammo. But it doesn’t hurt to check out the New Dudes. There are some things my Local Shops can’t do. But as they are about 30 miles out of my way, they better have some good deals of they want me back. Almost everything that Cabelas does in Hamburg my Locals already do. Now it’s Bass Pro’s turn to impress me. Whether or not they are is the Question of the Month. |
Agreed, but . . . . although she regularly helps me gut, drag and butcher mine, my wife was "sitting on the fence" when it came to buying a rifle and actually shooting a deer of her own. I finally talked her into her own rifle and she finally found one she thought "pretty" enought to like. Unfortunately, it was at BP. What's a poor boy to do? My wife actually threatened to cancel the sale during the phone call they finally told her it was "approved".
Agreed, I still buy almost all of my stuff at my local shops. BTW, how went the event? Anyone see any long boxes get carried out during the Grand Opening? |

It rained and so I checked them out. If you like to fish, GO. If not, don't bother. Cabelas is a nicer looking store. And they have more of the unusual kinds of ammo. I bought their entire supply of Q3131A. 720 rounds worth. Or about what my 30 rounders can carry at once. Which means that I still have room to spare. I checked out some of the shirts. I looked at five different shirts. Shirt One was from China. Shirt Two was from Viet Nam Shirt Three was from Mexico Shirt Four was from Malaysia Shirt Five was from China I bought ammo that came from Israel, but I didn’t buy any shirts. Stick to you Local Shops Boys and Girls, it isn’t worth the trip. |
