Shooters!

This coming weekend is CMPs annual “Western Games” shooting event at Ben Avery! (Actually it starts today and continues every day into the Creedmoor cup through next week).

It’s a bit late to sign up and shoot, but the event is very spectator-friendly! And they should have CMP sales at Ben Avery during the weekend!

The Western CMP Games Matches include the following events:
•CMP Games Match Clinic – a beginner’s class! Bring your own rifle!
•John C. Garand Match – The M1Garand at 200yds!
•Springfield Match – do it again with the 1903 springfield
•Vintage Military Rifle Match – do it again with any milsurp!
•Modern Military Rifle Match – ok now you can use any mil style rifle!
•Small Arms Firing School/M16 Match – Just like opening event at Camp Perry
•Rimfire Sporter Match - .22, scopes are OK
•Carbine Match – get out that .30 cal Carbine!
•Vintage Sniper Team Match – got any milsurps with scopes?

The Western Creedmoor Cup Matches include the following events:
•Team CMP High Power Rifle Clinic
•Creedmoor Cup (2400 point aggregate)
•4-Man Team Match
•Creedmoor EIC Match
•The above are all serious CMP style Service Rifle competition at 200-300-600yds.

I’d encourage you all to go out to Ben Avery’s High Power Range and check the event out! Watch it for a while! (bring eye & ear protection and binoculars). In prior years there have been over 100 competitors, more than half from out of state.

If you find you like this kind of shooting, we will have another beginner’s class at Rio Salado (Usury) on Sunday 29-oct. This one covers half day classroom, half day on the line with 1-on-1 coaching in a practice CMP style high power shoot. Separately, I have posted about the AZ Junior High Power Rifle team, https://www.ar15.com/forums/hometown/Any-teenagers-want-to-join-a-world-class-Rifle-Team-/13-618036/  which is recruiting teenagers for the 2017-18 season. For that matter…. So is the adult team!
