Do we have an AZHTF recommended company for security camera installs?  I bought a set of the wireless Arlo cameras and they just aren't what I was hoping for.  Time to call in a pro that can do a full camera/dvr install.

I did my own. It's not difficult at all.

Running Ethernet or Siamese cable from each of the outside locations into my second floor hallway where I have my patch panel and switch is just not a job I'm interested in tackling in July

I'm also interested in this topic. Time is not something I have a surplus of, and what 'free time' I do have I dedicate to my family. Spending a day or half a day or whatever installing cameras that may not get the job done 100%, and then having to mess with them over time to get them just right is not something I'm interested in.

What did you not like about the Arlo cameras ?
I was thinking about purchasing a few of them.

I have only heard great things about these. I would like to hear any negative feedback to save me some trouble.

They have their place, but I don't consider them to be an option for anyone halfway serious about security.

1. You either have to rely on batteries (ongoing maintenance) or have an electric outlet at each camera location (limits your ability to relocate cameras).
2. Susceptibility to signal interference.
3. Limited to 5 cameras or you have to pay for a premium account.
4. Usb thumb drive (limited size, can be failure prone, and easily removed) is your local storage option.
5. No PTZ options.
6. Limited to their proprietary cameras (not particularly damage resistant and easy to tell the direction they are pointed).

The cameras only record after they sense motion.  If you walk past the camera it barely starts recording as the person is out of the view of the camera.  The motion only triggers if you are within ~15 feet of the camera.  I placed one camera at my garage door looking down my driveway and it just will not trigger until i walk to the front bumper of my car.  Anyone can pull a car up in front of my house, walk up to the front door of my car, and break in all without ever triggering a recording on the camera.

The other problem I have is if the internet is down the cameras do not record any video.

I am interested in this also.  My security guy cant seem to return emails or phone calls so he is out (Absolute Security).  I need someone else who can do this.  And we also don't want the plug and play WIFI cameras as they are mediocre at best if you really want security.

I talked with Jeff at Bulwark Alarm in Phoenix and he's been great so far.  I haven't seen any of their work, but he's answered all of my questions and made suggestions that I hadn't thought of yet.

I haven't made a decision but I am leaning their way.  Waiting to get a quote back from Titan Alarm before I pull the trigger.

Ok, after talking with about 8 companies I settled on one.  Owner is going to call me back with an install date and I'll keep you updated.  Installing 4 cameras, power supply, dvr, and running hdmi from upstairs closet to my living room TV to view cameras.

System has been installed and so far I am beyond satisfied with results.  Jeff at Bulwark Alarm was great to work with.

Ended up with these cameras.  Image is clear and captures movement without any hitches.  Will update with IR quality once the sun goes down.

@Rizzo1318

Not sure how this will look. Pulled from phone.

Did the install company run the ethernet cables through the walls as well?

Was the price reasonable?  Not asking for a dollar figure unless you want to post it, but need to have some cables of my own run and wondering what that sort of thing costs.

Yeah everything was ran through the walls/attic.  All of the estimates I got for the same system were between $2000-2600.  This company did it for $2200, but their equipment had better reviews than the others.  The equipment was only about $900 of that, labor kicks the price up, a single story home will be much cheaper.

IR looks good to me!

We should do a AZ HTF IR-chemlight buzzsaw / IR laser rave to REALLY test out the system.

How long does the DVR retain video on that system?

Where do you folks live that you need to get this vested in a security system?

Heh. I had assumed that was the response I was most likely to get.

Just nothing the wife and I have ever even pondered spending money on in our neck of the woods.

The cool factor is definitely there, though. I'm sure I'd have some fun with it.

I like my wife being able to see who's at the door from whatever room she's in. When ups drops an expensive package at the door, it's got eyes on it until I get home.

I've caught a vandal and two thieves on camera with my system since it was installed, from two houses down and across the street...

We have a gated and locked front door area. People can't get up to the front door unless we let them in. All our delivery guys push the packages into our gated area when they leave them as well.

I totally get it for some people, though.

I've lived in the same 15 mile radius or so part of the valley my entire life now. Just never really been something I've personally felt the need for.

I always wanted a system just for the sake of having it.  7 years in this house and never had a problem.  2 weeks ago some kids had fun with a bb gun and all of the cars on my street lost windows.

Wife finally on-board with a camera system.

I have it set to record continuously on all 4 cams.  Installer says it should hold a "few weeks" of recording but would do a ton more if i set it to record only on motion activation.

I really only need a few days, shouldn't need to look anything up beyond that.  I'll let it record for a week and see how full the drive is and let you know.

Now that's something I could get behind. If I didn't have a large garage, and parked my vehicles outside...
