I'm going to be traveling in Arizona next week. I've got a Texas carry permit and have checked the general rules.   However, I'm unclear on travel through Indian reservations. I'll have the handgun in my vehicle rather than on me. Is this an issue? Any other pointers?

You'll be fine on the reservation if you stay on the main roads and don't carry outside the vehicle.
Don't carry in places that sell alcohol for on site consumption (most AZ restaurants).
Don't carry in public buildings/schools.
Private businesses that have no gun signs posted do not carry the weight of law. For example that means you can CCW into a shopping mall that posts no guns (ops I didn't see the sign ) and the only legal consequence is if you are challenged by security/owner/employee as to your gun you must leave if requested or face criminal trespass charges.

Enjoy your stay in Arizona!

yes, this is an issue!

it is your constitutionally-guaranteed, god-given, sacred RIGHT to carry! and this state actually respects that right, most of the time....

why will you NOT carry?

Wouldn't reciprocity of his Texas permit allow him to carry in places that sell alcohol for on site consumption as long as he isn't drinking?

I recently went through the Arizona ccw course and the guidance with Indian reservations is a little sticky- traveling through the rez on a main thoroughfare ( with gun not on your person) is ok but the instant you stray off the main drag you can get in trouble with local tribes.
This really annoys me- they want to be "independent nations" that can impose will on non Indians with whatever law they want to cook up, but are more than willing to keep taking Indian affairs money for health care economic development ( casinos etc)
We're we're told of a case a permit holder went to an Indian casino. They all have no guns signs and a security camera recorded him taking his gun off and putting it in his car. Both gun and vehicle were confiscated by Indian police and whatever regulation they used to justify the action is close to undefendable by the non Indian. Each tribe / jurisdiction makes up rules as they see fit.
Bottom line we were told other than a major highway don't get caught with a gun of any sort when on Indian land!

This is my understanding as well. Reciprocity is defined as your valid permit from another state offers the same legal rights and responsibilities as those issued by the reciprocity state.i asked this question in the class as well, having several valid nonresident permits from other states prior to applying and being issued the Arizona permit

I was trying to make it simple for the OP in regards to CCW in bars etc. Instead of trying to confirm if his CCW is valid and explaining the details of CCW in regards to bars it's just simpler to not carry in those establishments for a visitor. Much like explaining the details of CCW on tribal lands, trying to keep it simple for our guests.

That's a good rule of thumb if you're not sure if it's OK or not.  Main roads/highways are fine, also land that the Indians have rented or leased to the white devils for shopping malls and businesses is also fine.  Other than that, I stay off the rez and recommend that others do too.  If you want Indian souvenirs there are a lot of places to buy them that aren't on the rez.

Besides, everyone should see the Heard Museum at least once, get your blankets, moccasins and turquoise rings there.
