I went to town yesterday to change my driver's license to AZ from MO.  After waiting 30 seconds to get to the agent, I had a very pleasant visit.

Her: Do you have your birth certificate?
Me: Yes, here it is.

Her:  And your current driver's license?
Me: [handed it over]

Her:  Do you wear glasses?
Me: Not to drive, just to read.
Her: [chuckle]

Her: You have a motorcycle endorsement.  Do you want to keep it?
Me:  Yes, please.

Her:  Step over here and look into the camera.
Me:  [Full compliance with official instructions]
Camera: [Click]
Printer: Wwwwrrr, click, buzz.
Her: Here's your temporary license.  The real one will be mailed within a few weeks.  Have a nice day.

NO Eye test!
NO written test!
NO DNA or fingerprints!
NO restrictions for corrective lenses even though I was wearing glasses for the whole process.

Unfortunately, NO date with the agent.

Don't tell anyone, but AZ is AWSOME!

When I moved here for California, where if you went to the DMV the line started outside the building and would be hours of waiting…. I went to the MVD in town and I was shocked, no test and a “life time “ license, the place was clean and organized. WOW….When my parents came over a few years latter, they had the same royal treatment, and they were in their late 80’s, they were so worried that they would have to test…nope. Arizona is cool….

Unfortunately, I'm 64, so my license has to be renewed next year and then every five years after that . . .with a vision test

I was dreading the process too. Incredibly quick and painless.

Until about a year ago, they printed up your permanent one right there on the spot.

About the same here in Payson. Had to wait 5 minutes, there were 2 other people ahead of me.
Did not need to fill out any forms when I registered the car and truck. Just showed old title and registration.

Once time I was putting a vintage VW back on the road, the plates had been expired for a few years.  It cost $11 dollars for tags, and they didn't want to see the car.  It was awesome.
