I'm from Indiana and my wife (recently retired) and I decided to visit some friends here for a few weeks and get "warm"..... Indy is below zero !

I have not been out here since the Indy cars raced at PIR.

I worked on Indy cars for around 15 years and have spent lots of time at PIR.

I have heard one can shoot out in the desert so I brought along some long guns and a few pistols and I'm looking for info as to where to go.

I'm staying in the Avondale area in the travel trailer we recently purchased.

I was in the AZ firearms gun shop the other day.... nice shop and a guy named Mark
(nice guy) was telling me about "Joe Foss Shooting complex" west of here, seems they are open Friday thru Sunday 8-2pm.

So, with all that said, any ideas as where to go to "throw some lead down range" without causing any trouble ?

Maybe one of you would like some company and could "show" me around ?

Thanks for any reply's

Target shooting is allowed on National Forest land as well as BLM land. I'll try to find you a link to maps that show those areas. The National Forest maps can be had online. Not sure of BLM.
State Trust land is a no-go for casual target shooting, but ok for hunting.
Wait one...

Here is a map from Arizona State Land Department.  It shows all the land in AZ and who owns it (private, state, blm, national forest...etc)

Here's a link to the Joe Foss Range website. Joe Foss Range

I did not know they were there.

They used to have volunteer Range Officer's at Ben Avery, but when they were disarmed, a bunch quit volunteering. It's been a while since I was last there. I think they have a store, and a more formal check in procedure.

Welcome. Don't forget to pay Rizzo's ammo tax!

I was out on Miller Rd about a month back. Might still be opened. Its east of Avondale off the I-10.
