Be ware if you have cox cable internet . We have had cox internet cable since 2010 and we just got our bill and there was a $70.00 a month raise. We called and said we wanted to cancel and they said our contract was renewed automaticly . We told them we never authorized it ,they said it  automatic. And we were bound in for a year . If we cancel we would still have to pay $ 2416.00 for the remainder of the contract ,even if we cancel and go with another provider.. I never received any notice of renewal . This is very sneaky and under handed . IMHO this is a rip off and Cox is not to be trusted . I am currently consulting an attorney on this and would suggest  anyone who has cox look at their original contract . Any suggestions anyone has on getting legal help or advice would be greatly appresheated .

Can you reduce your monthly speed package?  I'm at $110/mo for Premier internet service and basic cable.  $70+ would be a ridiculous increase.

Did Cox say WHY they increased by that much?!

Yup this just happened to me and I finally gave Cox the boot.

Their cable was BS and they wanted more $ for HD channels so I dropped cable.  Then I get a $70 bill for internet and I dropped their asses.

Gonif: Not sure what other providers are available in your area, but some will pay your "outstanding balance" with another company if you switch to theirs. Look in to it. I would also file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau AND the FCC. Get a hold of a COX "manager" and tell them that as well....that may shake something loose for you. Tell them you're also going to call that TV station that sicks one of their reporters on bad / deceitful businesses. That alone will concern them as they won't want a cluster fuck about them on the local airwaves. That's just plain old ass fucking by COX. Assholes.

Good luck buddy!

When I cancelled Cox in Arizona not a word was said.  They never automatically renewed me.

This is on my biz ,3 phone lines and internet . I feel like they conned me and then told me too bad we gottcha now ,and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it . IMHO this is down right under handed, deceptive and just plain sleezy . It would be no skin off their nose if I left  and went some where else for service . There should be some consumer protection laws in AZ to end this kind of BS. The way they did this is despicable .
I'm so pissed off I can't see straight .

Well I just came back from Century Link to COX.  Yes and my bill is $70 a month.   But Much better than CL. was paying $70 a month and about 1/2 the speed.  Could not do any streaming with out delays.  But If COX does that to me, There will be No Fucking internet (other than dial up in my house).  Thats the way life will be.

They generally tell you while you're signing up if you're going to receive an introductory price, and how long the term is. When I moved I got a "new customer" discount and the guy told me at what points the bill would increase and by how much, and he told me to cancel by a specific date if I wanted to avoid the increase.

If they didn't tell you this, you might want to call and see if you're getting a discounted rate.

ETA: aww, there goes post 223

When I moved to Michigan I got Charter.  It was better than Cox in Arizona.  Every time Charter raised my price I called to cancel the service, they always lowered the price right back down.  OP must have a different contract being a commercial account.

What you describe is called an evergreen contract...  it's a standard type of contract for business services (renewing yearly with a baked in % cost increase unless you request cancellation with 30-90 days notice before renewal date), but is NOT standard for consumer/home services.  If it's a business service you bought - then it's on you (or whomever signed the contract) for not reading what you were signing.  If it's not a business service you purchased, and it's for home/personal, then you should be able to get out of it fairly easily.

If you read your original contract, I'm willing to bet you did authorize it.

I just pulled my contract out, it's there.
