What are these GI contract parts I hear of? Are they any good or stay away? I was told they were parts from like DPMS and other big names just unbranded. Whats your take on then??

Why even bother going with something whose pedigree is in question? Buy a Daniel Defense parts kit and be done with it. Stay away from DPMS.

It was my MOS to use those contracted parts with NSN's, and repair or perform MWO's to modify those weapons anywhere between the M9 all the way to towed 155's. We knew where it came from as the packaging had the CAGE Code on them already, and if they didn't, then Fed Log had them for us to see and the 92A to verify while processing the automated work order's and accompanying 5988E's with the NSN's needed from the -30 books.

If it had a substitute NSN, then that substitute had an alternate CAGE Code to identify where it came from. The whole purpose of that is to identify bad parts, inform the appropriate higher agency responsible for that item such as a bad 200 amp generator, engine, or transmission to TACOM, a bad barrel from a newly issued M777 to TEXCOM or AECOM, etc., etc. Sometimes AMC got involved, sometimes not.

And FYI, DPMS stopped making parts for the .mil the moment they became private. Parts came from then Sabre Defense, FNHUSA, Colt, LMT, etc. If they won the bid, they got it. There's money to be made in the parts game.

Hmmm. I've used a dozen DPMS LPK's and never had an issue.

Back on track... I like the Stag kits. Affordable and good quality. You have to be really unlucky to get a bad kit. The list of bad part sources is very short.

We will need some more details on what is being purchased/sold to give you an answer.
An assembled gun from "parts"? Could be OK could be junk depending on who assembled what parts.

I was lookin for a answer on "parts" in general.  It's a 7"upper. I ended up doing the trade. My buddy came along and lent me his SF lower. Thought the gun blew up for a minute there. The gas block slid forward due to not locking the set screw in. Check the video out at http://youtu.be/Yb8jepBxvF4

What .mil parts did he use? Not the barrel, not the gas block, not the hand guard, maybe the gas tube roll pin, most certainly not the gas tube, not the comp, maybe the barrel extension and crush washer was GI, the rest was derp and not GI.
