Fake owl, dangling shiny things, what has worked best for you? Sparrows are free loading on my chicken feed, I keep it in my chicken coop, but they still find there way in. I am getting a BB gun tomorrow on my day off, and I did manage to go hand to wing combat with them today and took out 2.
Update- So with life being the always fun and changing thing that it is, my landlord just gave me a call to let us know that she is selling the house. So if anyone is looking to add to their flock IM me. All hens are under 24 weeks old. I have 2 Barred rocks (1 just started laying), 3 Buff Orpingtons (1 has been laying a couple weeks) and 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte (should be laying in a few weeks). Have to get rid of my birds and the coop before she stars showing the house. Ill ad a few pics ASAP. |
| Change your feeder to a style they won't have access to the chicken feed. I don't know the name but the one where the chickens step on a step and the top of feeder opens works great. The feed and grain place north of greenway on 32nd st carries them. I've also seen a lot of plans online for building one yourself. |

We NEED video....... ![]() I'm back to battle tomorrow, ill see what I can get on video. I charged the sparrow horde, assault broom in hand. They broke ranks and I pounced on a stragler with a swift and stunning blow. Blading at 45° I landed a double handed over the head axe blow on the second parasite. By this time the first bird was regaining his senses, before he could take flight I landed a quick boot stomp.....it wasn't pretty but even the Aves FSA needs to be dealt with. Yes bb guns are for kids, but they are also cheap. I'm currently saving every penny to move, hence the reason im not buying an air rifle or a new expensive feeder. I figured sitting outside all day playing target practice will be both fun and thin their ranks. |

Let them all go together or AT LEAST in pairs...
Chickens are evil creatures to newcomers to the flock. They'll team up and kill the newb, it's kinda sad really. Also, tell whoever you're selling them to - to consider keeping them separate but within sight of the other chickens if possible for a couple weeks before adding, or at least add them at night. <<< less fighting this way. *I've sold hens before on CL ranging from $30 - $60 each. |
