Earlier this month, a 12-year-old boy shot his father in the head and killed him while they were out shooting prairie dogs near Seligman, AZ - not far from my stomping grounds. It's a sobering and realistic reminder that safety is a conscious act, just like we teach in our training courses. It also sounds like that boy was riding in the back of the truck and shooting out of it, which is not just unsafe but also illegal.

Please remember to educate kids and every other shooter around you about the firearm safety rules, as well as the laws regarding shooting and hunting.

I've shot and killed plenty of things out of moving vehicles, mostly at night.  It's no more dangerous than hunting ducks from a boat.  Driving darked out into a herd of hogs with PVS-14 equipped ARs is the cat's ass.

That said, it's not something I'd allow a 12 year old to do.  There are some situations where, when allowed by law, big boy rules apply.

Yeah I wasn't saying that shooting from a truck is generally unsafe, but a 12-year-old boy who may or may not have known what he was doing coupled with the legal issues made it unsafe, obviously.

As for your stories, all I can say is how dare you tell tales of driving into herds of hogs with NOD and carbines and post no pics!

I took a 7 1/2 year old whitetail out of the field you see at 0:37, too.

a buddy of mine still, to this day, has a .270 bullet in his foot after being shot by his brother while in the back of a truck while moving from one spot to the next.  Just be careful people!
