My kid is on Spring break next week, and I am looking for a place to go camping. She is 6 and we camp often (every 3-4 months or so) for 2-3 nights Tortilla Flats is closed, Mt Lemon is not open yet above Hitchcock. I am guessing some places in/around the valley will be a bit warm.

So anyone got a decent suggestion that isn't going to be freeze your ass off cold but not too warm either. I have a 2WD truck I am going to take that has decent clearance.  Not looking to go shooting, just looking to camp. I was thinking maybe up towards Sedona? Prefer not cramped around a bunch of people with RVs and crap like that.

Thanks

Not sure about the temps, but you can't beat the Mogollon. Or even Queen Valley.  You have to go back a few miles to get past the atv'ers and shooters, but it is pretty.

There's also Owl Head Butte off of Park Link Road.

Mogollon rim.. not on the top.  top is closed for most part due to too much snow.  But the face and below you have tons of options!!!

If you are looking for an actual campground, most are closed Oct-Apr.. but if you can drive down a dirt road in the National Forest, you can camp off of it, it is called dispersed camping, so you have to bring everything!

Check out

Haigler Creek
Canyon Creek

Both are on forest service roads and have tons of spots to camp along them.

If you want to stay around Sedona.. dont know much around there that does not get frozen or is closed as you go north.  But if you can get anywhere within Prescott NF you can camp wherever.  I think you just have to be 100 or 200yds off the road.

You mentioned Mt. Lemon, so I'm going to throw out Redington Pass.

the string of lakes NE of Phoenix: Horseshoe, Bartlett, Roosevelt, Saguaro, canyon etc... 7-springs, lower elevation so wintertime doesn't require snow camping... Alamo lake out west... agua fria NM, ironwood NM sorry no shooting :( actually that last one might be too close to smuggling routes to feel comfortable.

in Tucson? go up Mt Lemmon from the back side, past oracle, there's a campground called Peppersauce canyon and lots of open area for dispersed camping before you get to seriously high elevation.

Up hwy 93 as you head to Vegas about 60 miles past Wickenburg is Burro Creek Campground. Paved road about a mile off the highway. Big sign on the highway telling you where to turn. They have bathrooms & water, no showers or lectricity. A dandy place to camp spring & fall. I've never seen it full.
