At store:
Me: "Hello, I need to ship a box of small arms ammunition. It's labeled 'ORM-D' pursuant to federal law." UPS: "Like BULLETS?! We can't ship that!" Me: "I have shipped ammo through UPS on a number of occasions. I know that some stores refuse to accept it, but some stores don't. Can you help me find one that will ship it?" UPS: "No one will. A few months ago when the shooting happened, UPS stopped shipping ammunition. You have to ship it through a gun store." Me: "What's your corporate number?" UPS: "1-800-XXX-XXXX" On phone with corporate: Me: "Hi, can you tell me the nearest store that will ship ammo?" UPS: "Sure. 31st Ave and Grand." Me: "Thanks" At store: Me: "For future reference, UPS still ships ammo, and the nearest store that will is at 31st and Grand." UPS: "Right, but that's the only one that will." What. The. Fuck. |

You speak the truth. A year or so ago I tried to ship a 4 rail hand guard VIA UPS, the one at Bell Rd and Cotton Ln, and had to work the day I was suppose to send it off. No worries I'll just have the wife ship it out for me. She gets there and when they ask whats in the box she makes the mistake of saying, "A gun part." You would have thought she was shipping yellowcake uranium.
She calls me at work, says they wont ship it so I tell her I want to talk to the guy. The owner proceeds to tell me how UPS can't ship anything gun related, I tell him that it is essentially a hunk of metal the conversation is like talking to a brick wall. As soon as I get home I drive to the next UPS store, Bell rd and Reems, where the owner is happy to ship out the 4 Rail for me, when I tell him about the other location he mentioned that its not the first time he has heard that about that store. From now on I told the wife anything that has to go UPS is a now called a car part. |

As long as you're not shipping a registered part like a receiver, it's nothing but machined parts insured for the replacement value. Seriously, it's so much easier with a little discretion, you're not lying about what's being shipped, and you're covered insurance wise in case it disappears. It doesn't apply to the OP as he's shipping ORM-D items (which includes such benign things as spray paint btw) but for non-transferable gun parts it's perfectly adequate and more than reasonable. |

I ship gun parts all the time. Actually just had a rifle shipped to me. USPS never has given me issues., As long as the rifle was "registered" to me or if I send a HG, it would be sent to a gun store. Ammunition I have had no issues either.
USPS has always been problematic with me though, they lost a barrel I had shipped once. Then when I told them what it was, they freaked and it was basically a nuke hit the capital. |

UPS local stores never would not ship ORM-D packages for as long as I can remember. There is only 2 places to ship ORM-D is at the depots, 31st ave and Grand some where in Mesa where they have another depot. FEDEX has the same rules. Only at Depots, but they have like 10 of them all over the valley. |

This is so true...the one by me on Lake Pleasant and Happy Valley is hit or miss depending on who's working. I sold a buffer, stock, and a BCG to a guy back east.
When at the store this woman in her 30's asks me whats in the box as she proceeded to weigh the package, so i didn't lie I said "A Buffer tube, a Stock and a bolt carrier group" She replys with this snide look on her face and says "Oh, car parts! See not all woman are dense when it comes to that stuff" I just chuckled and said I see that!

UPS Store != UPS.
Package anything remotely gun related yourself and do not disclose the contents. If you know you are complying with federal law, it doesn't matter what they think. The UPS Stores are franchise and typically avoid anything gun related so they don't have to train their employees on the nuances. I don't even consider it an especially political policy. It just doesn't make sense to spend a lot of resources on training employees complicated policies relating to a very small portion of the business. Remember, we're not talking about W. P. Carey alumni here. Those employees are roughly equivalent to Jack in the Box burger flippers. On a related note, I flat lied to a girl at the mail box store the other day. I shipped a couple AR mags and didn't have a flat rate box already so I had to pack it in front of her. "Are those gun thingies?" she said. "Nope," said I. She could tell I was lying but didn't want to call me on it. I felt bad because it might have been an innocent question but I didn't want to deal with any BS. |
