I don't post much but I though some of you Arizona guys would like to see something I built. This is the first gun that I have built but it came out pretty nice. Its a rem 700 chambered in 300 saum. It has a krieger barrel and a McMillan A5 stock. I made the adjustable butt plate and the recoil lug. I'm a cnc programmer/machinist so doing the actual machine work was pretty simple. I had a old timer help me with chambering the barrel so I could see what not to do. Everything else was pretty much feel my way through until I was done. The gun shoots .750 groups at 300 yards. We have only shot it out to 1420 so far. I built this gun for my brother and he is pretty much the one with most of the trigger time. He made multiple hits in a row at ranges from 600 out to 1080. He just got into hunting and this is his first rifle. Anyways, here are a few pics of it. If anyone wants to see more of the actual build I will try and find a few more to post. Thanks azhunter1810 http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/s574/azhunter1810/2012-10-20_19-26-30_41_zps96dcdfd7.jpg http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/s574/azhunter1810/2012-10-20_19-28-15_896_zps6ed55008.jpg http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/s574/azhunter1810/2012-10-20_19-26-39_303_zps332286b2.jpg Checking your code, when you "Insert Image", do not include the "http://". If you can update your image sources, I will take your photos out of my response. http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/s574/azhunter1810/2012-10-20_19-26-30_41_zps96dcdfd7.jpg http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/s574/azhunter1810/2012-10-20_19-28-15_896_zps6ed55008.jpg http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/s574/azhunter1810/2012-10-20_19-26-39_303_zps332286b2.jpg Thanks man, think i got it! |

PRETTTY! Did you use that 300 for the short action mainly? To tell you the truth. I was gonna build a 300 ultra for him. i had him buy a adl that was already in 300 ultra so i didnt have to mess around with the bolt face. When i went to buy a barrel i grabbed a 1 in 12 twist. It wouldnt have worked with the ultra so i made it the 300 saum so i could slow the bullet down a bit. |

You could shoot it all day and never get tired of it. I was gonna make a muzzle break for it but after we shot it we realized we didnt need one. |

That is beautiful! I really would love to learn to build and machine my own rifle like that! How much does it cost to do something like that? He bought everything and i did all the work for free. he probably has around 1400 in the whole gun and scope. If you can find a good deal on a action and stock it could be cheaper. He bought a complete ADL at cal ranch for 430. the stock was 500 and something with no inlet. i had to draw it up in cad to make sure the inlet was correct so i could program it out. It wasnt as hard as i thought it was gonna be. It took me a week to build with about 35 hours or so in it. if you can get your hands on a lathe and a mill its not that hard. bedding the dam thing took the longest. now i know why they get so much money for doing it. |
