What kind of internet speeds are you seeing? Cox is running $50/month for a 15mbs max connection, and I'm thinking about switching.

Do they throttle your bandwidth when you exceed a certain data usage?

We mostly use it for Hulu and Netflix.

Check the service in the area. My mom is on the westside - getting 1.5-2Mbps.(from CenturyLink) Can't get faster because the phone lines go out when 3 drops of rain hit within 25 yards of each other. (Preventative Maintenance - how does that work?)

You don't have to worry much about throttling when your delivery speed is 8 times faster than dialup - but only downhill with a good wind.

I've had Cox since they first started offering internet. (Except for two months when I go ticked off at them - then discovered that Qwest was twice the price for 1/5th the speed.) ((That was a long time go, internet wise.))

I *think* 300bg/month has been bandied about - I guess I've never approached the limit. YMMV (and probably will)

I was paying 85 just for 20mb service and was ready to cut the cord, but found out the have a loyalty program and now have 15mb service for 35 a month. Now you have the option of buying the modem which saves me a significant amount every month.

as far as cable or DSL for your internet you should ALWAYS use cable because the technology is newer,provides faster speeds and is more reliable. I'm nog just some asshole on this matter I work as a network admin and am finishing yp my bachelors in networking.

I had cox for several years.  Had a laundry list of problems.  They couldn't maintain their equipment, and would have regular outages.  Their CS sucked, and every time I called I was told to buy a new cable modem to fix the problem.  I could never get above 3MB download speeds either.

When I moved 2 years ago, I switched to Century Link.  I've had only one outage, and that was scheduled.  My download speeds average 7MB and upload is 5MB.  I'm much happier with Century Link.  The downside is they don't offer you an email address.  You have to use another provider like Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, etc.

Had  U.S. West/Qwest (Now CenturyLink), Have Cox,  Both are pinnacles of mediocrity.

I just want to jump in here and say,

FUCK CENTURYLINK

When they did the switch from Qwest to Centurylink they fucked my bill and double charged me. They refuse to acknowledge that is what happened, and are still trying to get me to pay, which I flat out refuse to do.

I should know this, but where abouts the valley are you OP ?

I have lived in Tempe ( old areas, poorly maintained by both sides, and connections were OK), lived in Chandler, newer area, meaning newer lines and more nodes. Connections were fast on COX. Now live in Gilbert. Still newish area. Have had only 1 problem with COX. And it was they had their phone box/modem as the primary, and my personal one kept getting kicked.

So depending on the area, new vs old, and the equipment, COX is still the better way to go.  

Sometimes those ppl that have consistent problems, also do not believe in keeping their own equipment secured, or up to date. I use to do in home PC services and those with the most complaints on internet, all came down to how they were set up. Equipment was older/outdated ( open WIFI connections or trying to use their neighbors), or the PC was full of spyware/spam/toolbars/or no protection at all.  YMMV

Speeds have been great for me, my problem is with their billing.  In 6 months I've had them we have recieved a bill twice, and they STILL won't send us the code so I can at least access my account online.

Tell cox you're thinking of switching, they'll drop your rate for a while
