I'm gonna sbr my cmmg 9mm upper.  being that its just recoil operated (no gas) am I high to think I can just lopp the unwanted barrel length off and thread it?

Yep, for most practical lengths this is not an issue.

Send it to ADCO, they do very good work.

Or save on shipping and give it to Ward at Magnum Precision if you're in the Phoenix area. They are at the 27th Ave Shooter's World location. He's done several ARs for me, including removing a pinned and welded FH, threading, crowning, and installing/timing a Surefire suppressor adapter. Cost was $100 OTD.

No gas no worries. I would send it to King Armory for the cutting and threading....
