The Pima Regional Bomb Squad was requested to assist the Forest Service on Redington Road at Milepost #9 in reference to the disposal of exploding targets. The Tannerite, a binary product, was safely moved and disposed of via countercharge. Fire and Meds were on scene.  Department of Environmental Quality was advised. Subjects were cited and fined via Federal Agent.

Tannerite is the biggest bunch of waste of money, I bought 2 from Cabelas and when i shot them with my AR all it did was put a hole in the container and the shit spilled out.

Either not enough velocity or not mixed right.  I have never had a problem, and I have never bought it at Cabelas.

yeah i dont know i followed the directions on the container, and i cant imagine that shooting factory ammo would not have the velocity at 30 yards.

I did that once, hit it about 1/4" below the top of the tannerite, some spilled. Shot it again. boom.

We went through all that and it was determined that none of that was accurate aside from DM being locked down. There was no "armed man" "holed up" anywhere. That's why there was nothing elsewhere and no conclusion to the story you linked above. I thought you realized that your "source" had duped you back then, guess not. All of those "unnamed sources" and all providing not a single shred of verifiable information......I had come to expect more critical thinking from my fellow HTFers but the fact you're still convinced the DM thing was some coverup clearly proves otherwise.

So is this the same thing? Has anything "hit the wire" yet? Or is this another one with unnamed sources with no evidence other than hearsay?

btw: First 2 paragraphs
Even a retraction for shoody reporting

So again I ask you to provide some sources, since thus far you have been without any credibility.

The first post was just a good-natured rib. However, you apparently have trouble admitting when you are wrong. I get the impression that you're not young, did your mother not teach you that lying is bad? And to accept responsibility when you're wrong?

Tannerite only gets really cool at about two pounds and up.

I had an experience with some Phoenix PD a while ago. They were unsure of the legality so they called their supervisor or desk sergeant or whatever. We had to wait a minute while they looked it all up but when they got their answer everything was copacetic. I'll bet the guys in the OP were told they couldn't shoot and therefore could not dispose of the already mixed tannerite.

From that thread, the EOD guy claimed it was illegal under the fireworks law.  That was several years ago.  Under the new fireworks law, it looks to me like tannerite is legal again.

ARS 36-1601

In this article, unless the context otherwise requires:

1. "Consumer firework" means small firework devices that contain restricted amounts of pyrotechnic composition designed primarily to produce visible or audible effects by combustion and that comply with the construction, chemical composition and labeling regulations prescribed in 49 Code of Federal Regulations part 172 and 173, regulations of the United States consumer product safety commission as prescribed in 16 Code of Federal Regulations parts 1500 and 1507 and the American pyrotechnics association standard 87-1, standard for construction and approval for transportation of fireworks, novelties and theatrical pyrotechnics, December 1, 2001 version.

2. "Display firework" means large firework devices that are explosive materials intended for use in fireworks displays and designed to produce visible or audible effects by combustion, deflagration or detonation as prescribed by 49 Code of Federal Regulations part 172, regulations of the United States consumer product safety commission as prescribed in 16 Code of Federal Regulations parts 1500 and 1507 and the American pyrotechnics association standard 87-1, standard for construction and approval for transportation of fireworks, novelties and theatrical pyrotechnics, December 1, 2001 version.

3. "Fireworks":

(a) Means any combustible or explosive composition, substance or combination of substances, or any article prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect by combustion, explosion, deflagration or detonation, that is a consumer firework or display firework.

I don't know that you can make it fit any of those definitions.

Nope.  It says "means any -bunch of words -  that is a consumer firework or display firework.

1 and 2 define consumer and display firework.  It's not either of those.  So, it's not fireworks.

You may be correct, but don't expect LEO to interpret it that way.  Perhaps not even prosecutors.  While you may "win in the end", how much legal hassle and cost are you willing to entertain?

What other way can it possibly be interpreted?

ETA:  IIRC, you're the right guy to be asking this question.

How can you interpret it to cover tannerite?  It most certainly is NOT a firework as defined in that chapter.

I'm not quite sure what that means...

Seems to me that I've heard plenty of anecdotes about LEO who are ignorant about what Tannerite is, but go with their gut of "that can't be legal".
