Getting PCSed to AZ, started a thread that fell into the archives.
Will be closing on a new home near Marana at the end of this month. Been holding off purchases until after the move and that includes reloading components. When I can get out shooting been burning up my reserves and need to get components replaced. Any recommendations on where to pick up powder, primers and bullets? Also, what local gun shops should I look for or avoid? I would be willing to travel to Phoenix to work with a good and knowledgable NFA dealer. Someone told me that you can shoot in the desert as long as you are more than 250 feet from a house? I am in a development so I won't be shooting in my backyard but want to know where I can go and what the rules are. Oh and the Rizzo ammo tax, is that 10% on all ammo bought or just 10% of ammo brought in on the move? |

Im in NW tucson/Marana
For class3 stuff i use walt at C&T enterprises For reloading components, i usually get stuff from gary blunt up in phoenix. He goes off that username on arizonashooting.com For tooling, i have all dillon. THey are in scottsdale so shipping is a day away. As far as gun shops, they all pretty much suck. I like R&A tactical but i mainly use him for transfers, he's not really a gun ship. For selection you can't beat Murphy's. Just stay away from a certain rifle company in town named after this site. Yes you can shoot in the desert. Requirements are 1 mile from ANY occupied structure, not on private land, etc. Also do NOT shoot on state trust land. It is illegal to target shoot on state trust land. BLM land is ok Will |

Really for gun shops just looking to buy some NFA stuff on a trust (suppressors and an SBR or two). Would the shop you are referring, that I should avoid, have initials of BWA? |

It's 1 mile away from any structure inside of city limits.

And 1/4 of a mile away from any structure while hunting. Check pages 93 and 94 of this book. http://www.gunlaws.com/images/PhotoMed/AGOG.jpg I just di 1 mile to save my ass and it's easy to remember BLM = Bureau of Land Management (Fed Gov land) Will |

Recommendations for good NFA dealers? Want to get the ball rolling on an SBR AR-15 and a couple suppressors when I get there.
Any other recommendations for local reloading components besides Dillon? Reservist, thanks for the link. Will order that book when I get to the new home at the end of this month. |

Quoted: Any other recommendations for local reloading components besides Dillon? Sportsman's Warehouse usually has decent prices on powder and primers. It's where I tend to pick up most of my supplies other than projectiles (mail order for those) because it's relatively close to me. There's also Bruno Shooter's Supply in Phoenix. Some other stores sell components but they're not very competitively priced. |

give me a shout when you get here, I am just a bit south of you... I get most of my reloading stuff from wideners. I have a good local guy for transfers and you don't have to go all the way across town.
If you are really hurting for components I MIGHT be talked into parting with a keg of powder and some projectiles. The sales tax rate here (and in the phx area) is higher than california (yes you read that right) so I shop online mostly. Richard |

Richard Richard, Sounds great, maybe we could go in on an order from Wideners and save on shipping/Hazmat fees. How much does the local guy charge for doing transfers? |
