WOW, I went to my parents house and looked in the back of my old closet and found my old 94.    I have not seen that thing in 15-20 years.  Just took a peek then put it back in the case and took it home, tossed it in the safe.

Got some time tonight to check it out...  HOLY Shit, rust.    Its not rusted shut, but it has some rust on it.  More than likely it needs to be broken down, cleaned, and re-blued.    It was in a closet all these years but my parents house has a crawl space.  So it probably went through some humidity changes throughout the years with water under the house and all.  Its an old house.

It was not a gun in mint condition.  This gun went on a lot of hunts from when I was around 9 or 10 til I was about 20.  It was bought in 1976.

I can go through and clean the hell out of it.  But should I let a pro re-blue the thing?  Ive never done that.

Any suggestions?

Post pics.  Get all the loose oxidation off.  How bad is the pitting?  How bad is the pitting in the bore?

Protect or remove the wood. Spray it with Liquid Wrench and soak it over night. Use some copper wool (not steel) and lightly rub off the rust.  Then see where you are at and post pictures.

I would suggest Gun Kote or Durakote, rather than a reblue.

I had a buddy buy one in similar condition last month. He sprayed Kroil down the action until it was workable, then removed every single pin, screw, etc. Soaked all that for awhile then oiled up.

We tried rebluing the barrel and receiver (Birchwood Casey stuff?) and lost patience after the fifth or sixth coat. Reassembly is easy with Youtube and took me less than one beer to complete. He offered to sell it to me for $200, but I don't see the appeal of a lever action rifle.

See if he'll sell it to me then.
