I just went over to ASA and picked up an Aero lower and a 10.5 inch barrel  for my SBR build.  I put it all together except for the bolt carrier and charging handle which I dont have yet.  This thing is going to be fun to shoot tomorrow when I go out to Rio Salado.  I have never been up to ASA but they were great and had lots of stuff in stock.  I will do business there again.

Nice! Congrats man. ASA is great. I only had a negative experience once there and it wasn't that big of a deal me and Patriotar15 stopped in there so I could show him the store and some chubster with a viking beard had a conceded "I work in a gun store HAHA" attitude. But I only saw him there the one time and I never saw him again.

The deal they have on Aeros is great I built my buddy an AR using an Aero from ASA

Ahh, ASA. I remember the old ASA with the bipolar owner who would threaten and chase customers out of his door. Good times.

I remember visiting the shop with my dad once. Some idiot gun shop owner told him they were one of the best places around. The owner wasn't there, but the employees looked...nervous.

I also recall seeing fat bob at the gun shows. Not the friendliest dude. The stories are from arfcom threads. I'm sure others could elaborate. Those threads were quite entertaining.

There was a time (several years ago) when ASA wasn't held in very high regard both in Customer Service and Quality. ISounds like times have changed, but I'll still give it a little more time. The side-charger uppers do look interesting though.

I've dealt with them for nearly 10 years.  In the bad old days I bought a 10.5" 9mm SMG upper for an M16 I bought from The Armory (upstairs).  Even the guys @ The Armory said NOT to buy from them.  I didn't listen.  Well that upper still works 100%, and they fixed for free a broken spring on the dust cover door.  Skip ahead to 10 months ago, I had them assemble an 11.5" upper in 5.56.  I had an old A1 Colt upper and some aftermarket shorty triangle hand guards... I needed all the other parts.  I was a walk-in and they constructed the whole setup in less than an hour.

I took it to SGC and ran 200 rounds through it.  100%

IMHO, ASA is the real deal.

It is my understanding that someone bought the name from ASA when angry Bob died, and that the new company has nothing to do with the prior one. This was quite some time ago. Since then, there have been no bad reviews that I've seen.

I picked up a lower from them this morning. Super nice guy named Dan helped me out. He said that they have people stopping by from time to time asking where Fat Bobs grave is so they can go piss on it. I guess some people can never let things go.

no, joe bought it before bob took leave........I remember the old ASA real well....best part is more stuff went out the back door then out the front. Bob just had it for a tax right off. if I remember correctly, he owned that whole shopping center they and "The Armory" used to be in....along with a few other retail locations.

Bear, IIRC it was right around $275ish.  Whatever the exact number was, I had researched this project on the net and ASA had 'em all beat... by a lot.
