She got some treats and a full body massage! I am in a fixer upper in chandler so my backyard is the wild kingdom right now..I gotta get it cleaned up soon! I would have figured that the black widows and scorpions would cancel each other out LOL! Ive already gone scorched earth on my front yard, looks 10x better than it did...so no breeding grounds there. SHIT! You live just on the other side of warner from me I think. I havent seen one yet in the two years I lived here. Better go out tonight and hunt to make sure Im still safe. |
| I used to work pest control a while back. You can pickup the same chemicals as any pest control company and spray yourself for a fraction of the cost and do a better job in most cases. I'm a big fan of Demand CS. With scorpions, you will need to hunt them with your UV light along with pesticides in order to effectively control them. |

I just moved one month ago, and was stung by one a week ago...I haven't seen any since, but I know better So what was the sting like...like a wasp or worse? How did it get you, in the shoe or something? Just curious as I have only lived in AZ about 2.5 years and haven't had any direct experience...yet. I have went out blacklighting them in the wash on my property and they are everywhere. Oddly, I can see them by the dozens in the wash on any given warm night but haven't been able to spot any up close to the house (about 100 feet from the wash). |

Was researching product.. there is barrier stuff and instant kill stuff.. I need to barrier my house from the trash in my backyard...but was also looking to double up at the doors and windows. |

Thinking there were no scorpions here I just covered a section of my front yard with cedar mulch and I have a ginat pile of flagstone on the side of my house right now waiting to build a garden wall in the back yard. If I have any they will be in one of thoe two places Im betting. Will do a range report around eleven once they all come out if I have any. IF so its war time. I hate those fucking things. |

Not me...I been stung by a few critters and the bark scorp was the worse. I was stung while on beer raid at the fridge, barefoot. The little SOB stung me behind the big toe. Very painful at the bite area, and tingling and throbing from knee down. It lasted for 24hrs, and the bite area was numb for about 4 days. No swelling though. YMMV |
| I was having an infestation problem. Ordered some Cyper WP off of ebay and haven't seen a live one since about October. I've been spraying monthly, which is really overkill. It does kill them, but I'm primarily worried about killing their food. If there's nothing for them to eat on my property, they'll go somewhere else. So far, my plan is working. Guess I'll go out and hunt them tonight though, see if any have snuck in. |
|
So with all this talk I had to go check my yard. Nothing yet. Still too chilly here in Tucson.
I have been thinking about chickens anyway but the idea of them keeping the scorpions down makes me think more about it. The trouble will be keeping the dog from eating them when I let them out in the yard. She already eats rabbits, rats, mice, squirrels, dove and quail in my yard so I am thinking it will be hard to train her to leave the chickens alone. I'll have to read up on it. |
| Results are in. Found one. It was on the outside of my perimeter wall - the alley side. I guess I should start spraying the outside of my walls too. And maybe my neighbors. I already make sure to soak the joints where the blocks come together and the tops of the wall, but it wouldn't hurt to expand my kill zone. |

Makes your poison cheaper and could keep more sorpion away. |

If I do ask and get told no, I'm going to do it anyway and maybe cause animosity. The pesticide I've been using costs $40 for enough to make 20 gallons. I can treat my whole house and perimeter with 2 gallons. If i expand to the alley, call it 4 gallons. Thats 1 year of treatments, give or take (at a 2-3 month reapplication period) for $40. I'll pay that for the peace of mind.

I was mixing 3 scoops of Cyper WP per gallon of water and have toned it down to 2 scoops per gallon. Just wondering as I have only been spraying every 2 months and as long as the rain doesn't wash it down it seems to work pretty good. Certainly better than paying for a pest control guy to half ass spray around the house. |
|
Best way to control them is prevention........ check for areas around doors.... and windows...when its nice out people like to leave doors windows open and thats how they get in...
also they will come thru attic thru light fixtures or vents... all my vents have screens inside and light fixtures sealed good.... knock on wood, have nt seen any inside yet...... also control roaches or other bugs they feed on..... scopions are hard to kill.. You can pray and later on they will walk right thru it...... ALSO, watch areas they like to stay........ Rocks, wood piles...... and garbage piles.... keep yard picked up. |

The label says for scorpion control, you should use 4 scoops/gal. |

Anyone remember this jar of them from a Prescott shoot several years ago???? http://www.pbase.com/terry_56/image/99083519.jpg Were those the ones we roasted and ate or the ones Glen mixed in with the Tannerite? |

scorpions = paranoid
Cracks me up when I hear of all the paranoid people about scorpions. I catch and release and put them back into the preserve, never had one hunt me down yet. For me it make no since to kill the one bug that kill all the other bugs you fear or hate. Live and let live. |

I aint skeerd of the scorpions.... im just not fond of rolling over onto one in my bed, or putting my foot into its new shoecave. but just like snakes and spiders here there is a LOT of unfounded lib level fear on this site for these creatures. |

Thankfully since I moved here in May of last year no scorpions for me. Scorpions were not an issue for me in former state of the Peoples Republik of Comniforniastan. |

I used to live at Elliot and McClintock and we had occasional scorpions, maybe 6-12 a year. Moved right across the street to Warner and McClintock and saw 2-6 a week, if not more. Now I live two blocks from there at Ray and the 101 and I haven't seen any at all.
And yes, I hate the f*ckin things. |

Even the exterminator said he has never seen so many and that I should just move . You should have seen when they would have a hatch. Hundreds of little tiny scorpions on the walls outside. Funny thing is once I moved the next year they replaced all the roofs in the complex. Bastards. |
| For the first 2 years in my house, I didn't see any but then they started popping up. The worst I had was finding one every 2 weeks which isn't that bad but I wonder how many I didn't see. I lived with a friend in Gilbert for 2 years and we never saw one. 15 years later, the people living there now tell me they found 150 last summer. Seems like these things spread and multiply like crazy. |
